Day 2: 31 Days of Pandas

Today we start with the baby Wu stories! These are some of my favorites, as they were the first time I realized the joy of creating alternate characters for actual real pandas! Sooooo, in that sense, Pinky’s persona is all Mr. Wu’s fault!

Am I right?

This was the very first Mr. Wu ‘toon!

Mr. Wu made many cameo appearances before he started appearing in feature stories.

“Wu calls his dance, ‘Ode to a Weaf’ ” The real life Mr. Wu had great fun playing with leaves, which inspired this ‘toon.

31 days of Pandas starts TODAY!

It’s the beginning of 31 Days of Pandas! Can’t you feel the excitement? I think there is a slight whiff of indictments in the air! Oh…maybe it’s the fresh scent of fir trees and cedars and freshly baked cookies!. My mistake! They are so easily confused!

No matter! Every day this month will bring you some ‘toons from the Panda Chronicle archives, along with your regular NEW ‘toons on Sundays and Wednesdays! I’ll be focusing on the stories of Mr. Wu, in honor of the upcoming Panda Convention in March of 2018!

But for today, in recognition of the recent apocalypse EO signed (but then rescinded) by You Know Who on shipping trophies of murdered elephants into the USA, I thought this trio of ‘toons was in order!

Be very careful…It’s a jungle out there.

101 Bebe Panda-Nation part 3

Uh oh. The villain of the piece has arrived. Babette de Panda: international panda of mystery! (She may be French!) Fortunately, she was able to fit us into her busy schedule, because when there is evil that needs to be done, no one does it better than Babette! Get ready for the next episode of 101 Bebe Panda-Nation part 3!

Babette can talk anyone into anything.

101 Bebe Panda-Nation Episode 2

I loved that classic 101 Dalmatians, but the lead villain, Cruella deVille was just way too scary. I hope you agree that Babette is a much more cuddly and adorable villain. She has taken a little time off from her very important role in The Pandyland Mysteries series (still waiting for it’s forever home!) to join in for this holiday fun!

And now, on with the show!

Yes, yes, it’s Fabulous Furry Friday, but what with the American Thanksgiving holiday, I was so busy in the kitchen that I never had time to prepare todays encore presentation post. Never fear, I am here now, and here are some toons from the way back machine to cheer your weekend.

A New Feature Story for 31 Days of Pandas

Yes, that’s right! We are approaching 31 Days of Pandas, a Panda Chronicles tradition since…um..well, I can’t remember when I started it. As with recent years past, I have a bit too much on my plate to bring you a new ‘toon every day, but just think of it as Fabulous Furry Friday EVERYDAY!!!!

I’ll still be posting new ‘toons on Sunday and Wednesday, as per usual, but on other days, I will share some of my favorites from the archives, and I think many of them are appropriate to the season. And who knows. I may be able to pop out an extra new ‘toon to two here and there.

There are so many new readers who haven’t yet become ~~inundated~~ acquainted with all the characters and story lines, so this is a good chance for you to catch up! It’s also a good time to remind you that Panda Chronicles books make the best Holiday presents!

But without further ado, here is the introduction and first installment of our newest feature presentation, the worldwide intergalactic third house from the corner premiere of: 101 BeBe Panda-Nation!

BTW, you may have been hearing all this stuff about Net Neutrality and how it might go away. WTF is that, you might ask? Net Neutrality helps to ensure that little guys (like me) have as much access to the cyber waves as folks like…say…Facebook. If you think a level playing field is a GOOD thing, consider dropping your representative in Congress and the chairman of the FCC a line and tell them so.

Well, all of you, except maybe for Pinky. I just have NO IDEA how she is going to take the emergence of this little charmer from France: the one, the only, the maximumly adorable Bebe` Maurice! If you have not seen him yet, feast your eyes of this video of Bebe` Maurice! (Editor’s note: the folks at Zoo Parc Beauval have NO IDEA that their little baby panda’s name is Bebe` Maurice, but we know better, don’t we?)

Well you’ve been waiting for him to make his debut appearance and now you must wait no longer! Huzzah!

Fabulous Furry Friday

It’s Friday, and you know what that means! Time for our purported leader to drop another bombshell and then go golfing! Fortunately, while you are rending your garments and gnashing your teeth, we have some classic panda toons to share with you!

Echoes of Comics History

As I was working on the last couple of installments of The Panda Chronicles, I had a little bit of a revelation. I’ve talked before about being influenced by several of the great well known, as well as the not so well known, cartoonists who have come before me. One of my favorites growing up was definitely Peanuts. The Sunday comics were the first thing I would read when the paper arrived, and I loved nothing better than Peanuts.

So, today’s ‘toon is a tribute: to Linus and Lucy Van Pelt, and their relationship, which gave me so much inspiration as I developed Pinky and Bubba’s personalities and interaction.

Maybe some day The Panda Chronicles will make comics history

The NSA Has Nothing on Pinky!

Remember when we were all freaked out about the news that the NSA was monitoring our phone calls and internet communications? Yeah…those seem like the good times now! Sad! But as Bubba is soon to find out, that the NSA is a piker when compared to the surveillance capabilities of Princess Pinky! And now she has gone ~~undercover~~ off camera as she has her crew of decorators comes in to give her quarters in Dujiangyan a little updating and sprucing up.

So she says!

There is no telling what Pinky is getting up to and no one knows that better than her adorable and easily manipulated little brother, Bubba. As I was drawing the next ‘toon, I realized that they are inspired, in large part, by none other than Lucy and Linus Van pelt, of Peanuts fame! Am I wrong? But in the meantime, remember….

Pinky knows where you live!!!!

BTW, I have been given permission to post this notice about next years Panda Convention in PanDiego California! Final details are still be worked out as to pricing, but we wanted you to have the opportunity to save the date just in case you might could be in the vicinity of the Pandiego Zoo in early March of 2018!
