31 Days of Pandas: Dating in the time of Mittens

Boy, if finding true love was not hard enough, politics has done it’s bit to make stranger bedfellows than you might ever have imagined.  New dating websites that specify political allegiance have been popping up (heh) all over the place. Lest you think I have been making all this up, I heard it first on NPR (I’m thinking Wait,Wait, Don’t Tell Me). Not that I wouldn’t make something this silly up, but this time (this time!!!!) I am innocent.

Even The Washington Post covered this story. I bet you could have an amusing time just googling Trump Dating Sites, but I would advise against setting up a fake account. At least one of these sites was hacked…um…pretty much immediately.

But what do pandas think about dating in the time of Mittens?

31 Days of Pandas: Day 3

Even though this is the third day of 31 Days of Pandas, this is the first new ‘toon of the month. To refresh your memory, the schedule for the 2018 31 Days of Pandas, New ‘toons will be posted at the regular times on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and encore presentations will be posted Friday through Sunday. (In case you need to plan your panda satire schedule!)

The encore presentations will each be a year in review kind of thingie, where I will pick out my favorite ‘toons from each month of 2018, and maybe add a little commentary about them as I am inspired to, or think you might be interested in the thought process behind my favorite ‘toons. (Also to see if I can remember just what the heck I was thinking when I made that ‘toon.)

So! On with Day 3 of 31 Days of Pandas! Huzzah!

Nothing is more exciting than the beginning of 31 Days of Pandas, unless of course, it is finding out you just won the MegaGazillionsPandaPaloozaLottery!!! (BTW, I did NOT win this, so don’t ask for money, okay?)

The Traditions of the Senate

Huzzah for the wave of blue that has swept over the House. (If you are not happy about this, you might want to stop reading right here, or maybe even back up to the beginning of the sentence!) We may not be able to counter the so-called Senate traditions about who can or when they can nominate, say, a judge, for instance, while the sad turtle is in charge, we can slow down a few abuses of power, perhaps.

It’s looking like a blue tsunami to me!

Sad Turtle, Too Much McConnell has much to answer for.

Join us as we attempt to push away from the table (no! Really, I couldn’t…oh, well, maybe a fifth piece of pie would go down nicely) and gather around the computer to enjoy a few vintage ‘toons as we gear up for 31 Days of Pandas, starting a week from Saturday.

The news just keeps getting newsier and newsier and I am thankful that my friends in north central CA home was spared, but so many were not. Perhaps the panda kindergarten could be enlisted to rake the forest floor. Sigh….

But enough about reality! Let’s have some pandas!

…I present a cartoonist’s revenge. When you know that the powers that be have gotten away with a terrible miscarriage of justice, and that people who have suffered at the hands of said person have gotten no relief, and that more injustice will follow, there is really only one thing you can do.

Draw a cartoon that depicts said person being eaten by bears. Silly, cuddly bears, but BEARS!!!!

Get Ready for More Stories About Bears!

I have a little series coming up, that I wrote to make myself feel better about the recent Supreme Court Nomination Debacle. I’m thinking that this series had it’s roots in an exercise our Nevada SCBWI Mentor class had in a session during our final weekend. Our leader for the class, Timothy Travaglini, (@DevilWrsBowTies on Twidder) had everyone write a couple sentences about someone who had done something really awful to us, for which we would like revenge. We then exchanged the papers and pared up with another writer in the group to write a story of revenge.

I’m just saying: do not make writers mad. The story they will write in retaliation will be very scary.

Just keep that in mind when you read our little series starting on Sunday!

We’ve all been there. You’re having a perfectly nice dinner with friends, someone brings up an old movie, a song, someone asks who the director or co-star was, and before you know it, everyone has pulled out their phone and is Googling the answer.

Sigh…

Little did we know that not only does it annoy (some of) us, it pisses off your dog, too.

Cats, on the other hand, weren’t paying attention to you anyway.
