My Checkered Past…

Sometimes folks ask me where my ideas come from. They come from all over the place TBH. They come from the news, they come from actual pandas, and they are all at least tinged with my own past history. Today’s Sunday Funday takes a trip down memory lane….

Here’s how it works:

Panda Satire Made Easy

Panda satire explained for you!

The origins of Panda Satire…well, it started with cats!

Ever wondered where all these pandas came from?

But my years in the coffee mines of Starbucks have inspired more than one ‘toon over the years. I have mostly repressed the long ago memories from my days at the roasting plant. And before you ask, no I did not get rich on stock options: that happened after I left, after Howard “don’t call me a billionaire” Schultz bought it from the actual founders. (Want to read the low down on this man who would be president-or more likely help HWMNBN re-elected? Read This. I was able to supply some choice quotes.)

I hope Howard comes to think of me as the annoying splinter that gets stuck in your sock, that keeps poking your foot, and no matter how often you take off your sock, you can’t find it and it sends a sharp pain with every step you take. Don’t make Pinky mad!!!!!

This was way too much fun. :o)

Can I have EXTRA extra whipped cream?

But who knows what is floating around in my brain?

What’s that stuff getting all over my paws? Oh…it’s frosting!

Please, not another ShutDown!

As some of you may know, I try to work a bit ahead on my ‘toons, so that power outages, snowpocalypses, and gallivanting around do not interfere with my schedule of posting ‘toons for your enjoyment. So, sometimes, they are a bit out of sync with what is going on out in the world.

But in this case, even though this series of ‘toons was about the ORIGINAL half-baked, harebrained, ill-advised shutdown, since we are on the eve of another potential shutdown, it is all too appropriate that I run this series now. Really, I hope the Congresspersons can keep HWMNBN from doing the foolish and destructive thing this time, but I have to say, I’m a tiny bit apprehensive. Fortunately, no one has figured out how to shut down the Panda Chronicles yet!

Let’s get these pandas on the road! There’s no time for a shutdown at The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire!

Dis. Will Not. STAND!!!!!

BTW, I’m happy to say that the responses to my Kickstarter survey are rolling in! I just started the ordering process for the pins, so hopefully, by the time they get here, I should have the labels all ready to go and you will get your Pinky Pins quickly! I’ve already started designing Bubba’s pin and hope to be ready to launch that project by the end of March!

You knew Rusty had to get his opinion in, didn’t you?

TBH, I don’t know if red pandas are really this fiesty, but I like to imagine that they are. They provide a wonderful counterpart to the (relative) calmness of giant pandas (except where Pinky is concerned). I really need to get into the Woodland Park Zoo and see the new kids on the block (and maybe demonstrate for WOOZPPAH a little bit.)

Why don’t you tell us what you really think, Rusty?

Unka Rusty has some seriously feisty opinions!

And speaking of WOOZPPAH, if Howard Schultz wanted to do something worthwhile with his money, he could endow the Starbucks Panda Pavillion at Woodland Park Zoo. He won’t, but it might make me like him just a little bit.

Bears Will Be Bears!

I just heard a news story on the radio the other morning about grizzly bears still being on the endangered species list. This, of course, made me think about everyone’s favorite grizzly bears, Frank and Mikey! Be assured, I am working on some new ‘toons for them which will show up in a few weeks, because, as you might imagine, they have opinions about this development!

While generally speaking, we are all on team panda, rumor has it, there are OTHER bears out there too!

So to celebrate our upcoming ‘toons starring Frank and Mikey, here are some Sunday Funday ‘toons about bears!

Today, you are a bear.

Oh those polar bears! What jokers they are!

another cartoon inspired by real news!

Thanks again to Henry Nicholls for alerting me to this story

Lookee! It’s Frank and Mikey!

Send in the bears!

Helloooooo bears!

I like bears.

Be the Bear, ebbryone!
Bob T Panda (smarter than your average bear!)

Whew! Peel me off the ceiling!

Let’s start today’s post with a rousing cheer for all of you who supported me in my Kickstarter campaign to make the FIRST Panda Chronicles collector series pin!

Huzzah!!!!!! But now, let’s check in on the newest RED Panda babies at the Woodland Park Zoo…

Wee are pandas too!!!!

And now…Some final thoughts on my pin project…

I’m very excited that we had such a huge success, and reached the minimum amount needed to do the project, (on the FIRST DAY!!!), with a couple of add ons, to make them even more pandarific!: A printed card on which the pins will be mounted on AND, a stamp will be made for the back, that I can continue to use as I do more pins from this same manufacturer.

You might wonder why I choose the Kickstarter platform to do my projects and the main reason is this: I am a one person operation, with all sorts of plates and balls (and sometimes roaring chainsaws) in the air at the same time. The thing I love to do most is to make art and write and draw pandas (and engage in a liddle panda improv on twidder and fezbook) Soooo, if I can condense the ordering and fulfillment time into a short, finite period, it means I can spend most of my time making art, and a shorter, more focused time getting it to you.

This is also why coming up with an assortment of products (tee-shirts! Pillows! Jewelry! Phone covers!) doesn’t work very well in a one person shop. Turning my studio into a warehouse of products takes space and time, not to mention the product development and fulfillment research time. (Not to mention money.) One of my goals for this year is to develop my Redbubble shop so that those more varied products ARE available, but I won’t have to make, store, or ship them.

I like using Kickstarter to develop ideas that don’t exist in the instant order world of places like Cafe Press and Red Bubble. It allows me to design (fun!!!) and have someone produce the pins, and know that I have enough interest to make the project viable.

I’m really excited to get these pins in your hands. I’m hoping to design a new pin about every two months and I hope you’ll like the first ones enough to collect the whole set! Your enthusiastic response allows me to get some extra pins, so that a couple times a year, I can have special pin set sales (once there are enough pins to make sets!) and as new followers jump on the panda train, I’ll have previously made pins so that people can have all of them, at least till they’re all gone!

Thank all of you who supported this project, once again! I hope you’ll let me know who YOU think should have the honor of being on the next pin!

Thanks for Being the Bears,
Bob T Panda

Pinky pin! #ClapLouder

Don’t go away mad, just go away!

Really, some of Mittens’ spokes-vampires have gotten so outrageous with their lies that I’m surprised their heads don’t explode from the sheer audacity of their statements. And what’s with Mister Coffee’s whining that because he is rich and successful, people are being mean to him when they tell him they don’t want him to RUN for president, let alone BE president. We’ve had enough whining from Mittens as it is.

But enough about the lies and whining of people in the political sphere. We have more than enough lies from Pinky! On with the ‘toons!

Please, just go away, KittySue! And did you see what I just saw on Pinky’s Tiara?

Panda on, oh, and by the way, we have just a few more hours for you to sign up and pledge your support for the first Panda Chronicles pin, featuring none other than Princess Pinky! You have until 5:17 PST to head here to pledge your support! Thanks to everyone who has already climbed aboard the Panda Bus to make this project a reality!

It’s Super (Panda) Bowl Sunday!

If you’re like me, you probably don’t have any idea even who is playing in the (Non-Panda) Super Bowl! I did read somewhere that the Super Bowl people don’t want ANYONE besides them using the words “Super Bowl” but I don’t know what they are going to do about it.

And it’s almost time for the Lunar New Year celebrations, but Banky Pig is nowhere to be found! I guess we will have to wait for a new ‘toon celebrating the Lunar New Year until Banky Pig comes back from…um…an undisclosed location!

But until then, let’s revisit some of our favorite ‘toons from Lunar New Years past!

rooster

Huzzah! it’s the year of the Dragon!

The year of the bunny…..

Oh that panda kindergarten!

Huzzah! It’s The year of Pandas on Horsies!

Look out!!!! Oh, those triplets!

It’s the year of the WUster!!!!

How much is that doggie in da window…

I hope everyone has a festive new year, and what better way to celebrate the holiday, than with a Pinky Pin over at our Kickstarter page! Only 2 days left!

Sometimes, someone behaves worse than Pinky…

You might think THAT could never happen, but that was all before 2016 rolled over all of us and “Mittens” moved his litter box (and his fiends and relations) into the White House. So, comparatively speaking, Pinky is a model of propriety. Imagine that!

Every night, I listen to Rachel Maddow as she explores all the twists and turns in the never ending drama of The Sopranos…um…I mean “Mittens” and his minions, related or not. Oy vey. Save us from millionaires who think that only they can fix it, and yes, I’m also talking about former Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz. To my knowledge, he has not indulged in the criminal behavior that appears to provide the bread and butter of the “Mittens” clan. Really, Howard’s only shortcoming is that he has neither the humility nor the willingness to listen to the “average working  American” that should be a prerequisite for the office.

Howard, if you want to run for president, either as a Republican OR a Democrat, I say go for it. Tell us in debates with other candidates what your views are; why your ideas are better for the American people (who are NOT millionaires) than those of the other candidates. That’s what this painfully long campaign process is all about.

Tell us what you believe in (and “the two party system has failed” is NOT a very informative statement.) and how you are going to make life better for all of us, of all races, genders, partner preferences, and religious affiliations. Tell us how you are going to make our country safer for all of us. Tell us how you would provide healthcare for all at an affordable price. We’re listening.

Geez…enough of this…let’s have some pandas!!!!

Mittens did WHAT??????!!!!????

Hey! Don’t forget! There are still 5 more days to get your fuzzy floof slippers over to Put a Panda on It, my Kickstarter project, and pledge to get your own Pinky Pin!

You Can’t do That to Pinky!

Pinky has RIGHTS!

Pinky has a Magical WAND!

Can Mittens really do this? Well, I just don’t know about that, Dude.

Mittens can’t really do that, can he?

Meanwhile, we are entering the final week of our Put a Panda On It Pinky Pin Kickstarter campaign! Huzzah! so there is still time to head on over here if you were thinking you wanted to collect the whole set!

It’s Sunday Funday! Let’s have Fun with PANDAS!!!!

The sky is gray, but it’s all black and white at the Panda Chronicles!

Yes, it’s Sunday, which is now our day for Encore Presentations of all of my (and I hope your) favorite ‘toons. I spent yesterday at the American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Seattle. It was fun and overwhelming and I came home with piles of new books to read, saw many of my writer/illustrator buddies from SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and was in the presence of more people than I usually see in a year.

If I find books in my now huge to-be-read pile that I love, I’ll be sure to pass these titles along as I know many of you love to read things that aren’t even about pandas!

But now, let’s have some of those pandas you love!

I just saw another news story on Twidder about this…

“I’ll have one of these, and one of these, and one of these, and one of…”

what fresh horror

…and she ate the just right cuppycake all up!

31 days

Oh come on…hasn’t that ever happened to you? One minute there are two dozen cuppycakes just sitting there, and the next minute they’re gone?

let there be cake!

Inspired by a TRUE story!

I need to go have some cake!
