31 Days of Pandas: Year in Review: January 2018

Let’s spin the wheel and see what we were thinking about last January….

Since it is January, I imagine Pinky has been given a resolution or two, (by her mom) in hopes she will be a better panda this year.

Pinky: “rules are for other pandas.”

Of course, being an Olympic year, the super secret selection of this year’s Torch Bears had everyone guessing!

Uh oh! has there been Russian tampering with the selection of the Torch Bears?

Of course the pandas had lots of practicing to do before the big event…

Alas…we were in for yet another year of life in the regime of “President” Mittens. Really, It couldn’t get worse, could it? Oh, yeah…it could.

The 2018 Olympics May Be Over, But the Spirit of Competition Lives On!

Okay. Don’t laugh. But I really have mastered the art of cookie balancing. Using Archway’s Windmill Almond cookies, my current record is 23 seconds to nibble a straight edge at the bottom of the cookie, and balance it on edge so that it stands for 10 seconds or more. Go ahead. You try it if you think it’s so easy. I’ll wait.

And now…going for the gold!!!

In other feats of athletic competition, I was working outside yesterday, trimming an out of control Lonicera Baggerson’s Gold (kind of looks like a boxwood, for you non-gardeners) and I had a little six inch piece of branch. Rather than walk over to the trash can where I was putting cuttings to dump in one of my many compost piles, I threw it (left handed!!!- I am right handed) from about 15 feet and sunk the shot perfectly. Am I ready for an award winning sporting career or what?!?! First, cookie balancing and now this!!!! Huzzah!

Of course both sets of the Cublanta panda twins had to come up with a crowd pleasing program for the Winter Olympics! Who knew that they would come up with such a brilliant routine?

Four pandas are better than two.

And in other news, (from an undisclosed location) shock ways have been going around the world since the Global Panda Awards finished their voting period and Pinky did not win. Anything. Oh the pain, the pain, the pain. I can’t even.

But We’re Not IN the Real World, Are We?

Yes, in the real world, the winter Olympics will be just about over…the cheering, the crying, winners and losers, all celebrating how sports can bring about whirled peas. Or world peace. Take your pick. But here in Pandyland, the Olympics are just getting going, the Torch Bears have arrived to light the torch (more on that later) and Hockey practice has begun.

Um..did you let Pinky have one of those stick things to hit stuff with?

Pardon our technical difficulties

Oh Cwap! I screwed up!

I really, really thought that I had set up a post for Sunday, but the weekend was kind of busy, and all I can say is that my brain was obviously overloaded and…I just forgot. Or to be more accurate, I thought I had done it, but I didn’t. So…does that qualify as a technical difficulty? I throw myself on Pinky’s mercy! Fortunately, I have not been hauled off by the authorities for inappropriate humor, so there’s that! and now you get a little giggle on Monday evening!

I’ve heard through the Twidder grapevine that Pinky is writing her own state of the Union (or “Uniom”) address and just between you and me, I think Pinky’s address will be much more fun, interesting, and coherent than He Who Must Not Be Named’s address. Are people taking bets as to whether he will stay on script (using his petulant, somewhat whiny “I’m reading someone else’s words because mommee said I had to” voice) or blast off into an incoherent rant?

I hope someone will tell me because I will not be watching.

It just wouldn’t do to have unauthorized persons (or pandas!) spy on the practice sessions that Team Panda is holding to make sure they are ready to go for the gold! The pandas have a long history (well, since 2008) of competing in the Olympics, and this year is no different. And now, from an undisclosed location …

Hey! What are you two doing up on top of the ski jump?

Interestingly enough, We just watched the movie about Eddie the Eagle, the young British man who was so fixated about competing in the winter olympics, that he, through great resolve and personal pain and difficulty, managed to train in ski jumping, and while he didn’t come close to winning, it was a very inspiring story about following a dream. It’s out on video, so watch it if you get the chance.

Sorry for the false anticipation, for leading you on, leading you astray. Wait a minute! I’m proud to lead you astray, in a good pandy sort of way, of course! Today I am REALLY going to reveal who the Torch Bears for 2018 are! Honest! But first (OOOO! I KNEW she was going to do this!!!!)
