Please, not another ShutDown!

As some of you may know, I try to work a bit ahead on my ‘toons, so that power outages, snowpocalypses, and gallivanting around do not interfere with my schedule of posting ‘toons for your enjoyment. So, sometimes, they are a bit out of sync with what is going on out in the world.

But in this case, even though this series of ‘toons was about the ORIGINAL half-baked, harebrained, ill-advised shutdown, since we are on the eve of another potential shutdown, it is all too appropriate that I run this series now. Really, I hope the Congresspersons can keep HWMNBN from doing the foolish and destructive thing this time, but I have to say, I’m a tiny bit apprehensive. Fortunately, no one has figured out how to shut down the Panda Chronicles yet!

Let’s get these pandas on the road! There’s no time for a shutdown at The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire!

BTW, I’m happy to say that the responses to my Kickstarter survey are rolling in! I just started the ordering process for the pins, so hopefully, by the time they get here, I should have the labels all ready to go and you will get your Pinky Pins quickly! I’ve already started designing Bubba’s pin and hope to be ready to launch that project by the end of March!

The sky is gray, but it’s all black and white at the Panda Chronicles!

Yes, it’s Sunday, which is now our day for Encore Presentations of all of my (and I hope your) favorite ‘toons. I spent yesterday at the American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Seattle. It was fun and overwhelming and I came home with piles of new books to read, saw many of my writer/illustrator buddies from SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and was in the presence of more people than I usually see in a year.

If I find books in my now huge to-be-read pile that I love, I’ll be sure to pass these titles along as I know many of you love to read things that aren’t even about pandas!

But now, let’s have some of those pandas you love!

…I’m still there, kicking butt and taking names. Really…I love Panda twitter so much. FezBook has it’s good points too, but for some reason, it feels more vast and therefore fragmented and I miss a lot of posts.

Anyway…All is going well over at my Kickstarter project (still almost two weeks to get your Pinky pin!) We have enough in the banky pig to have the pins made, as well as have them put on groovy cards (mebbee with another picture of Pinky on it!).

But meanwhile…back at the Panda House…

By the by…you may remember that right before Christmas, I taught a class on making comics to a group of young persons. Apparently some of them had a good time, and their parents did not want to have me arrested and a group of them (a girl scout troop) want to do it again. I think I should show them the ‘toons about Pinky and the Meihems and the panda Scout Cookie sale!

The Year of the Banky Pig: Episode 2

What WON’T Pinky try, to get possession of Bubba’s Banky Pig? He has been carefully saving his money so that he can go visit his friends Yip and Jip, now that they have moved to Calgary. But Bubba’s friend and sidekick Ping Ping has a plan, a cunning plan!

You can’t fool Bubba anymore, Pinky! At least not as much as you used to be able to!

Ping is definitely the clever one! What did he say to Bubba?

Sunday With the Wu Self

While the completely Unfair and SAD!!! DC #PandaCamShutdown is happening, pressure is mounting on those other zoos with panda cams! Six and Sebben are feeling the strain to be cute non stop, and while Mr. Wu is in his prime years of panda stud-muffinhood, the strain is getting to him too!

Let’s look back on the early days of the Wu-self when he was not quite so pleased to share the spotlight with the other up and coming pandas!

…The Year of the Banky Pig! Huzzah! Yes, the Lunar New Year, known also as Chinese New Year is coming soon. How soon? I don’t know, Auntie Lucilla…how soon is it? And since in the Chinese Astrology, each year is signified by an animal, changed  on a twelve year cycle. This year is the Year of the Pig. (Bubba: dat’s BANKY PIG!!!!!!)

For some reason, there is no year of the Panda. 

To whom do we file a complaint about this obvious error?

The Scandals Keep Mounting…

Will we ever see the end of this? Voter suppression, lies from what should be trusted government spokespersons, feeding and ramping up the fears of the American public.

But where traumas and tribulations are rampant, pandas ride in to save the day. With humor, at least. That’s something, isn’t it?

Before we get to today’s ‘toon, I want to tell you about a little project I have in mind. A couple years ago, Kickstarter came up with a concept for small projects for the month of January. The idea is that you create a project with rewards limited to 100 “things”, so there is only 1 reward level.

I’ve been thinking about this for a year, and doing some sketches.  There have been some great enameled pins being designed by artists, and I think a series of Panda Chronicles pins would be a great addition to the pins that are now available. Depending on the response for this pin, I can do additional projects with additional images. I

I bet you want to know what the pin will look like…

Of course, Pinky demanded to be on the first pin. Proposed size, approximately 1 inch high by 3/4 inch wide.

Please feel free to share your comments, let me know if this is something you might be interested in. I’m working now on setting up the project over on Kickstarter, and plan to go live around the middle of January, with a 2 week funding period. (not much time, I know!) More information will follow soon!

It’s Super Panda Sunday here at the Panda Chronicles!

Actually, right now it is Wednesday night, but another big windstorm is headed my way, and as the last one knocked my electricity out for almost 5 days, I thought I would get this scheduled before it goes dark here.

Since HWMNBN has decided to blow up the budget deal and shut the goobermint down (AGAIN!!!!!) I thought you would appreciate some of Bubba’s greatest hits to get you through the shutdown. We can only hope for the sake of people who aren’t getting a paycheck because of this, that by the time this posts, it will all be over. I am not optimistic.

Here We Are! 2019…Is it any better yet?

Hmmm…not so that I can tell. There is a great essay by Anne Lamott, about not making pointless resolutions for the new year, like…um…losing weight. Pandas are gonna panda, am I right? And part of being pandy is…um…being pandy, so enough with that!

That said, I do like to make goals every year, primarily to focus myself on the work I want to accomplish during the year. I only occasionally look at my list once I’ve written it, but I find the act of writing things down, with a pen on paper, and sharing them with another artist friend of mine in our annual ritual, does help me keep on track. And when I do revisit the list, I find that I have done much of it.

Haven’t sat down to do my list yet, but here are some things that I want to put on it

Visit the San Diego Pandas. (plans are already in the making and execution)
Close down my Pandyland store on Cafe Press and get my one on RedBubble up and running
Compile and publish the next edition of the Panda Chronicles books. This will be Book 9!
Do a January “100 things” Kickstarter. I have an idea, & it involves panda stuff! More soon!
Paint and garden like a tornado
Get back to work on the manuscript/storyboards for books 3 & 4 of The Pandyland Mysteries,  my graphic novel series, as yet unpublished, but when it is, I am going to be so ready to keep it moving.

I’m also going to tweak the schedule here a bit…

New cartoons will post on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at a little later in the morning than I have been posting them. Encore presentations will appear on Sundays instead of Fridays. Other than than, everything will be exactly the same. (Except with maybe some indictments and more resignations from the Mittens WH) Pinky will still torment her brother; Bubba will still strain the seems of his overalls. mei xiang will despair of ever getting Pinky to behave, and Mehitabel will still rule from her heavenly post. You’ll get used to it.

But now, I think Mei Xiang finally has Pinky’s New Year’s resolutions compiled!

Bubba: my resolution was just to chew my food more, an’ mebbee not eat so much frosting.
