On the Eight Ball…or at least the magic Eight Ball….

Those of you who have been following the pandas for a while know that I like to make the occasional “fine art” joke or reference and this series is no different.  A few years ago I saw some of the prints by famed Japanese artist Hokusai that were part of the Thirty Six Views of Mt Fuji series, created between 1826 and 1833. French and American impressionists were very influenced by Japanese prints, so much so that French artist Henry Riviere created his series Thirty Six Views of the Eiffel Tower, which I also had the privilege to see at the same exhibition where I saw Hokusai’s prints.

But what the heck does this have to do with pandas and panda satire?  I have decided to dedicate this series to those artists and call it:

Twenty six Views of Cake.

"Madame Babette sees all!: I see cake in my...er...your future!"

“Madame Babette sees all!: I see cake in my…er…your future!”

Who says you can’t learn something from pandas?

Welcome to Day 6 of 31 Days of Pandas! Quick! I must make my…

ESCAPE!!!!!!  Yes, today’s panda word is Escape!  While I’m diligently searching for an “F” word that I can use in polite company, tomorrow’s pandas will bring you a full on cartoon (with the lovely and charming Mehitabel!) as well as ..um…pandas!

and now…

Ta-da!

Escape! Come with me, little cake, so we can be alone together.

By the way, for fans of little Mr. Wu, he will be back soon!  His mother thought that the panda kindergarten overstepped a few boundaries when they …um…baby sat with him during the letter “C” and that perhaps he should be just a little bigger before she let’s him play with the Pandy Kindy again.

Day One of 31 days of Pandas! Huzzah!!!!!!

Well despite the fact that I was at my first book launch party ever, put on by those fine folks at The Rob Schouten Gallery, I came home and got to work finishing my first cartoon of 31 days of Pandas!   It is a “kinder and gentler” cartoon than usually appears on these pages, but I have been spending…um..a bit of time (do NOT ask how much time, because I’d probably lie about it) watching the newest San Diego Zoo Panda cub, who has just turned 4 months old this week.

This little guy has his picture in the dictionary, as an illustration of the word cute, so how could I not give him his own feature cartoon?  So, without further ado, here’s Little Mr. Wu!

"Howdy do! I'm Mr. Wu! Who are you?"

“Howdy do! I’m Mr. Wu! Who are you?”

Be the (incredibly cute) Bear!

PS: if anyone asks, I did NOT eat ALL the cuppycakes at the book launch party, OK?

Has Sunshine and Sweetie’s luck run out for this year?

There has been news of panda frolics all over the internet lately… well, at least where the pandarazzi lurk, that is.  Rumor has it that Sunshine and Sweetie have called it quits as far a parenthood this year.  What with moving into a new home, (“try finding a plumber or a decorator in a new town…I ask you!”) it seems that the two day “window  of opportunity” was a little too short to “get the job done.”  Other panda pairs are perhaps having better luck in this department.

Maybe a silly little love song would have helped things move along in Scotland.  Well, there’s always next year!

I hope people haven't had enough of silly love songs!

Happy Birthday to Mehitabel!!!!

And that’s no April foolin’.  In honor of her 16th birthday, we share a cartoon that has NO PANDAS in it.  Hey, I had to grant her wish, or who knows what she would have done!

Well, maybe this wasn’t such a cat tribute after all.  Hmmm….I knew I shouldn’t have let the panda kindergarten select the day’s cartoon…..Well, happy birthday anyway Mehitabel.  May you continue to be able to jump on the counters for many more years!

And here is a little April 1st humor from the Scottish Pandas:

Kitten escape! The story continues!

Before we get to our feature presentation today,  I’d like to give myself and all the pandas (AND MEHITABEL, didn’t you mean to say?)  a quick pat on the head because we are less than 300 visits away from reaching 20,000 visits to The Panda Chronicles.  I don’t know what this means in the real world, except that maybe you, dear reader, are coming back again and again and telling your friends, or mentioning it on your blogs.  So whatever your doing, thanks. Be the Bear!

Run,kitty, run!

A big thanks and a Roll of Honor entry to Linda M. for her suggestion relating to cats and toilet paper!  You da bear!

Mehitabel eludes the panda kindergarten…but for how long?

Mehitabel's great escape....

We last saw Mehitabel being carried away as hostage to the panda kindergarten, who, in their own misguided way, were attempting to inspire people to sign on to the cartoon boss’s Kickstarter proposal.  Several people signed on, but not nearly enough.  Fortunately for Mehitabel, it distracted the panda kindergarten so that she could make an escape.  But this is no time to relax!  They are still after her!  Can Mehitabel outrun the panda kindergarten?  Will she reveal her hiding place after the insult of being called “Mr. Kitty?”  The saga continues.  4 days left to support this worthy project!

We weren’t surprised, were you?

And the envelope, please...

It was no surprise that Babette de Panda won the oscar for “Best Female cartoon panda in a movie of 2 minutes or less”  for her role in “Your Brain on Pandas:the Movie.”  We see her here, accepting her award, with the filmmaker and perhaps her paramour (?) Bob T. Panda.  A night on the town is certain to follow!  Hope the panda-razzi don’t catch her in any compromising situations.  A special thanks to her wardrobe consultant and designer of her fabulous gown, Sylvia C..  Well done!

Tune in to morrow to find out if Mehitabel can escape the panda kindergarten.
