It’s Mourning in America …

Before we get to our weekly round-up of pandas, I just want to give voice to the thought that is in most of our minds. This Monday is Memorial Day, the day we, as Americans, pause to remember those who died protecting our country in the armed services. By tomorrow, more than 100,000 people will have died in this country from COVID 19.

Academic statistical models tell us that had we only started physical distancing and stay at home orders one week earlier, we would have less than half this number of deaths. We can’t change the past, but we can still influence the future. stay home if you can. Wear a mask if you can’t. While you still might have to go to work, do what you can to maintain distancing and stay out of crowded situations when you are able.

Do we want this all to be over? You bet! Is it going to happen immediately? Probably not. What helps me is keeping in touch with my friends and the panda online community.  Is constantly reading political commentary helpful? Probably not, but it does give me some good material for ‘toons, amIright? Better to spend more time watching panda videos.

So, let’s see what pandas have to say about all this…

There will certainly be more hijinks at The Panda House (don’t forget, Six and Sebben, and the Meihems are still visiting!) but for now, safety and sanity (???) return to Mommee Mei’s charges.

Of course with Pinky, peace and quiet never lasts for long!

What will happen next? I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

Felty Panda Update:

I am close to being caught up with current felty panda requests! I’ll still be taking orders for more, but plan to spend a little time in R&D to experiment with making Banky Pig, Mr. Toasty, Frank and Mikey, and Kevin, the smoking hot Koala! Stay tuned!

HWMNBN is not wasting any time getting his authoritarian game on. I sincerely hope we all do not die before this pandemic is over, and that the damage done by 45’s Reign of Terror can be repaired. Is it any wonder, Pinky has let her paws go tappity tapping through the shopping channel on Pandazon?

Editors note: I am reeling from the news that Calgary’s pandas are going back to China three years early (four, if Er Shun had another cub) I am so sad that I won’t get to see them again, and also sad for their panda care team, which I know really loves their bears. I think maybe on Sunday we will have a tribute to the Canadian pandas, what say you? I’m sure I’ll have something to say about it by then.

Rollback of environmental regulations
Rollback of work safety standards
Breaking the promise of a path to citizenship for DACA registrants
Imprisoning desparate migrants in inhumane conditions
Rollback of food safety inspections
Continued attempt to end the Affordable Care Act and the protections for those with pre-existing conditions

And that was all before the Coronavirus Pandemic…

Too bad for Pinky that her little brother and his friend Ping Ping, and their cousins from Atlanta are getting a little more assertive! She can’t get away with nearly as much Pinky-like behavior without them striking back!

Felty Panda NooZ!

As of today, with the exception of one package that the person is not ready to receive yet (She probably wants to do some special shopping for Pinky!), ALL the felty pandas from the Kickstarter project have gone out! This is exciting because it means:

  1. I have made about 200 felty pandas thus far
    and
    2. I have already started of the recent new felty panda orders! (you know who you are!) I will email you as your pandas are ready to travel. Thanks to my newly mastered skill of printing flat rate priority mail labels from home, I can mail things without having to dawdle around the post office for long stretches of time! Huzzah!

Even though I saw the original Star Wars movie when it came out, it took me years to get this joke. What can I say? Sometimes I am not all that on top of things.

Meanwhile, COVID19 rages on as does the Malignant Orange Menace. Wearing masks is recommended and so the good folks at Redbubble added masks to their line up of products that artists can add their creative stamp to.  If you need a mask, I hope you’ll check out my offerings at Redbubble!

Who’s ready for TIGERS????

We have many animal friends here besides pandas and (some) cats: koalas (Kevin) grizzly bears (Frank and Mikey), elephants, and even groundhog Punxatawney Phil made an appearance, but once in a while…

There will be TIGERS!

You all remember that story a month or so ago, when the Bronx Zoo reported that several of their tigers tested positive for COVID19, right?

Of course, ZooNooZ got the scoop!

Panda Commerce Update!

I just posted some new designs over at my Panda Chronicle Shop on Redbubble, and you might want to check them out. Eventually I hope to add these designs to fabric over at another artist “products on demand” site for textiles and linens, but for now, they are available on several products at Redbubble.

BTW, some people asked if I would be making Pinky masks and I probably mumbled something noncommittal, BUT, the folks at Redbubble must have been getting lots of questions about this, because they gave the artists a heads up so we could set up some masks with our designs so when they launch, they’ll all be ready to go!

UPDATE!!! Masks have LAUNCHED! Just head over to my home page at Redbubble, look for the design you like and see if there is a mask available. It didn’t work for every design, but there are masks with all the following designs, as well as some with larger images of Pinky, Bubba, Bee, and Mr. Wu!

We are ALL Concerned…

WE knew that the Minch McTurtle led Senate would not vote to remove HWMNBN, even though all the evidence pointed its tiny fingers at him. For me, this unwillingness to look reality squarely in the face and do what needed to be done, verged on cruelty when certain Senators made statements leading one to think that maybe they were on the fence, and could be persuaded to do the right thing.

And now…and now…he is floating the idea that maybe the scientist should look into the idea of using household cleaning disinfectants (“Hey! Everybody has some!”) and strong UV light to “disinfect the body” For the record, this is a bad idea that will kill you, or at the very least make you wish you were dead. And then he gave another press conference to say he was “being sarcastic”.

But at least we got to see Brad Pitt play Dr. Fauci on SNL…

And now, without further much ado about the end of civilization (which is not nothing…)

Everyone. Knew.

The Quarantine (and the fun!!!) Continues!

What did you learn in the quarantine of 2020?

I learned a new thing today! I learned how to print postage labels from my very own home computer! Who knew how easy it is? Okay, everyone but me, but I was dragged kicking and squealing toward computer usage. I used to drive one of my friends who tried to get me to get on the computers nuts with my reticence. I would open a file cabinet drawer and say, “I’m booting up my computer…now I’m opening a file,” as I pulled out a manila file folder and opened it.

Boy, was I funny! Don’t ask me how many computers and digital devices now live in my house. Really…who knows?

People are posting recipes on Twitter, real and ironic. Late night comedy talk show hosts are broadcasting from their living room couch or attic. Authors are holding book launches on Zoom.   The bereaved, denied the opportunity to say goodbye in person are spilling their stunned grief on social media. This is something we’ve not seen, most of us, in our life times.

We find hope even in our despair, we look for joy where we can find it, and so…

I have declared PANDA SATIRE an essential service.
