Who’s ready for TIGERS????

We have many animal friends here besides pandas and (some) cats: koalas (Kevin) grizzly bears (Frank and Mikey), elephants, and even groundhog Punxatawney Phil made an appearance, but once in a while…

There will be TIGERS!

You all remember that story a month or so ago, when the Bronx Zoo reported that several of their tigers tested positive for COVID19, right?

Of course, ZooNooZ got the scoop!

I’ve been waiting for weeks to use this joke…

Panda Commerce Update!

I just posted some new designs over at my Panda Chronicle Shop on Redbubble, and you might want to check them out. Eventually I hope to add these designs to fabric over at another artist “products on demand” site for textiles and linens, but for now, they are available on several products at Redbubble.

BTW, some people asked if I would be making Pinky masks and I probably mumbled something noncommittal, BUT, the folks at Redbubble must have been getting lots of questions about this, because they gave the artists a heads up so we could set up some masks with our designs so when they launch, they’ll all be ready to go!

UPDATE!!! Masks have LAUNCHED! Just head over to my home page at Redbubble, look for the design you like and see if there is a mask available. It didn’t work for every design, but there are masks with all the following designs, as well as some with larger images of Pinky, Bubba, Bee, and Mr. Wu!

Meanwhile, feast your eyes on these…

Beeeeeeeeeeee!

Bubba, two ways! Don’t call mee boo boo!

Nobody expects the panda kindergarten!

Surely you didn’t think I’d forget Pinky, did you?

I included all four of the designs on socks, as well as the soon to be released masks, as well as several other products in their catalog.

You’re welcome!

Panda on!

Fabulous Furry Friday Presents…

I’m sure there are people who have most of this week off, or at least part of it off any way, because of the July 4th holiday. That is not the case here, because
A) I am self employed
B) If I took a week off people would be like, “where are my pandas??? I NEED my PANDAS!!!!!!

But don’t cry for me Argentina…

If I had a week off, what in the heck would I do with it? Draw pandas? Clean my house (nah…never that! How do you think I have so much time to draw pandas?)

Meanwhile, here is a holiday classic for the 4th of July!

uh. oh.

In addition to the #secondcivilwarletter posts over at Twidder, we couldn’t help but notice a certain Senator lamenting that lack of civility and a perfidious preponderance of profanity (pretty good alliteration, wouldn’t you say?) So, in answer, we offer this ‘toon!

Well *bleep* and take your *bleep* and stick it *bleep*!!!!

And of course, once again, it is time for the Tour d’France to take place, and we have this to say about that, as well as other selfie opportunities!

Hey! Get out of the way!

Much better to take a selfie with pandas!

You know we’re just kidding about this, right?

AAAAAAhhhHHHHHH!

I really had no idea what she was up to.

And of course, who could forget Pinky’s visit to the White House?

Mei should not be getting all excited like this in her condition!

Meanwhile, the National Zoo is on Mei Watch. We hope she has a happy, healthy cubby (or two!) but no matter what, we hope that she will continue being her lovable self right in DC. There have been reports that Bao Bao herself might be on pregnancy watch. We shall see!

More Selfies with Tigers; an update

We recently received an update on the question of the wisdom of taking selfies with tigers, thanks to alert reader, mystery writer, and panda satire fan Sandra Parshall. It seems that there is a “thing” about posing for selfies with wild animals. Maybe people think it makes them look cool, or sexy, but one wonders how sexy you would look with a bear or a tiger clamped onto your arm. Or your head.

Really, just don’t do it.

New York state has decided that they needed legislation to protect people from their own…um…oh heck, I’m just going to say it…stupidity. Sigh.

Here’s our original tribute to selfies with tigers:

Much better to take a selfie with pandas!

Much better to take a selfie with pandas!

You know we're just kidding about this, right?

You know we’re just kidding about this, right?

There was a bright side to this story, and that was Mehitabel got to be in a cartoon with one of her “peers” with no pandas! Huzzah! Not to worry, the pandas will be back on Friday.

Be the bear,

Selfies With Pandas

I gave up watching TV more than 15 years ago, and quit reading newspapers some years earlier. (After Bill Watterson retired, what was the point?)  But here at The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire, we are not totally uninformed. We listen to NPR (National Panda Radio), read The New Yorker* and the Atlantic Magazine. But our favorite source for Nooz Pandas Can Use is the NPR show,  Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.

* sometimes we even read the articles.

Yesterday, as I was driving around in the cubvertable, one Wait, Wait… segment related a story about how the state of New York was considering (or had already) outlawed the practice of taking selfies with tigers. Now, this story raised many questions, that we felt were not adequately addressed on the show.  (We thought about going back and listening to the podcast to see if we had our facts straight, but then we thought, hey! We’re pandas! Since when have we concerned ourself with the facts?)

First, are tiger selfies really such a big problem? and what about enforcement of the new statute? Are they going to staff zoos and other places that tigers congregate to make sure no one takes a selfie with the tigers.  Do the tigers get any say in this?

Needless to say, The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire has not shirked their responsibility to fully explore this issue.

Much better to take a selfie with pandas!

Pandas hit the top 100!!!!!!!!

Well, I don’t know about you, but there is a certain excitement that comes with higher recognition.  While pandas are the rock stars of any zoo (sorry tigers…you’re just big stripe-y cats, and you know where cats stand in relation to pandas) we are shy and retiring and not entirely sure of our acceptance in society.  People have such an attitude about bears!

We at the Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire would like to thank all our faithful readers, even the ones who found us accidentally when they were looking for hair replacement therapies, not BEAR replacement therapies.

We hope to find where we stashed our story about PandAir so that we can bring it to you soon!

till then,

Be the Bear!!!!!!
