The news is too terrible for commentary from me tonight.
Here are some silly pandas. I hope they help you feel a little better.

Before we begin with today’s ‘toon archive presentation, I thought I would reveal the answer to the riddle posed in last Thursday’s ‘toon post. I asked if people could identify the painting and painter that Bebe Maurice was reprising, with his petite zizzies as his models.
It was, of course, John Singer Sargent’s Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose, or as one of our alert readers revealed from some writings of Mr. Sargent, he referred to it as Damnation, silly, silly, pose. He has a point, I guess, but it has remained one of my all time favorite paintings, by one of my favorite painters. And it really ought to be done with pandas! The painting resides at London’s Tate Britain, along with many other works by Sargent.
I also wanted to share my method for covering N95/KN95 masks, to make them more fun to wear. It requires no sewing ability, but sharp scissors are very helpful:

I still don’t know where this story is going, but I found my way into it a bit more. When we left the Panda Chateau, Bebe Maurice’s Maman had just received a mysterious letter from an applicant to be a governess to Fleur and Snowy….
Extra credit if you can identify the painter and painting that B. Maurice is reprising here.

The Month of Pandas is coming to an end…
And who better to celebrate this 50th pandaversary at the national Zoo than the ENTIRE panda family in residence!?
Well, who didn’t think that Pinky’s family would track her down?

But really…who can blame the little piggy! Chips are really hard to resist!
I really don’t want to think about the clean up. I suspect the owner would be better off just torching the car.

The 50th Pandaversary celebration of all things PANDA would hardly be complete without an examination of every thought that has ever passed through the magnificent brain of the most important panda that ever resided at the Smifsonian National Zoo!
Oh sure, you might think Ling Ling and Hsing Hsing were those most important pandas, since they were the first to reside in Washington DC. Or maybe you might think that the well loved Tai Shan (aka #1 son), being the miracle cubby who arrived in 2005, is that most important panda.
A tip of the tiara to Pinky’s twidder typer for this idea!

Yes, pandas have become a part of every day life in Washington DC!

Pay no attention to those reports of Ling Ling biting one of her keepers! I’m sure it was just a little panda nip!
There is a side by side video that is making the rounds on Twitter. In one video, Ted Cruz is asking a condescending question of our newest (and most qualified) SCOTUS Justice. In the accompanying video, he is asking the previous nominee the most soft ball question anyone has probably ever asked a SCOTUS nominee: “Do you play a musical instrument?” Yes, that’s what he asked.
At first I was enraged by the insulting question asked by Cruz of Judge Brown Jackson. It was asked specifically to demean and degrade someone who was a classmate at Harvard Law School, as well as a nominee for the highest court in the country. The disrespect was palpable. But as I thought more about the juxtaposition of the two videos, I also realize that Cruz disrespected Amy Coney Barrett as well. By asking such a stupid, trivial question of her, he was showing his contempt for her as well. I certainly don’t agree with Coney Barrett’s philosophy or her religious views, but as a SCOTUS nominee she is owed the respect of being asked difficult and relevant questions.
The republican senators took it on themselves to try to put Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson “in her place” by treating her with disrespect. But all they did was prove to the world how out of place and ill-qualified they are to govern, themselves. They proved to the world their bigotry and small mindedness.
Congratulations to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. May you serve justice for many years.

I sure hope Bikkie doesn’t decide to stow away on Frank, Hank, and Mikey’s summer trip to the ancestral homestead!
