About Panda in Chief

Anne Belov paints, writes, makes prints, and is the founder of The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire. You can find her paintings at the Rob Schouten Gallery and Fountainhead Gallery, her cartoons on The Panda Chronicles, and her new book here. She also writes regularly for The Whidbey Life Magazine, a free journal of art and culture on Whidbey Island. Her main regret in life is that there is no MacArthur Grant for Panda Satire.

Where No Cat Has Gone Before….A Journey to the Center of….Bob’s Brain

It is a really um…dangerous thing to suggest things to me sometimes, because you never know where they will lead.  Today the “responsibility” lies with panda videographer extraordinaire, Doxiemom Pandamonium, for carelessly stating, “Boy I’d like to be inside your brain for a day.”  Ask, and sometimes, you shall receive!

What's that stuff getting all over my paws? Oh...it's frosting!

What’s that stuff getting all over my paws? Oh…it’s frosting!

Remember, if a news story is the sort that would make it to Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me on NPR, it is probably something we can make fun of with pandas!  Feel free to leave news stories or suggestions in the comments.  I won’t use them all, but you never know how a chance remark will react in a brain filled with cream cheese frosting.  Huzzah!

And if you haven’t signed up for our monthly (more or less) newsletters, just click here or on the button near the top of the right hand column!  I’ve got plans for sharing all sorts of things that don’t make it on to the blog, as well as discounts on books that will only be shared with newsletter subscribers.  We won’t share your address (not even with the panda kindergarten!) and we won’t flood your inbox constantly.  Just once in a while.

Tune in Wednesday for the next episode of Mr. Wu’s newest adventure!

Till then, be the bear!

Bob T. Panda

PS: I’m pretty sure that you don’t get into a panda’s brain just by getting really, really tiny and crawling in through their ear.  Science was never my strong suit.

OMG it’s Fabulous Furry Friday

Well, here it is, Friday at last and I completely forgot to have something ready to speed you to your weekend, with dreams of pandas dancing in your brain.  What was I thinking?  To be honest, the cold that wouldn’t die is still making my head a little fuzzier than usual, but fortunately, there are many pandas in reserve!

But I do like the Friday pandas to be relevant, so today I give you the prologue to the Shakesbear pandas, as I am getting ready (finally!) to start working on some of the Shakespeare for Pandas plays that my brother wrote last year as part of a 31 plays in 31 days project.

Shakespeare is currently on my mind, because Whidbey Island’s very own Island Shakespeare Company is getting ready to launch a very exciting project.  Stay tuned for news of this exciting development!

After all, the playings the thing....

After all, the playings the thing….

The panda kindergarten will, of course, have a central role in the proceedings!

Have a wonderful weekend and Be the Bear!

Huzzah! It’s Mr. Wu Wednesday!!!!!

Happy panda dance, it is Mr. Wu Wednesday and the beginning of a NEW adventure for Mr. Wu, with his …um…good friends, the panda kindergarten.  Please don’t tell his mom, ‘kay?

Whatever could be in the box the panda kindergarten is delivering to Mr. Wu?

Whatever could be in the box the panda kindergarten is delivering to Mr. Wu?

This cartoon answers the age old question: is there a child alive that actually listens to what their mother tells them?

By the way, if you haven’t signed up for the Pandyland News Newsletter yet, what are ya waiting for?  It comes out approximately when ever I remember to write it (and I am figuring it out a little better, so as to eliminate those pesky newsletters to the wrong lists…oops!) and contains news and information about my books and special offers not available anywhere else.  Just sayin’ you might want to check it out.  It’s free to subscribe and you can easily unsubscribe if you think it is a complete waste of time.  And, if you haven’t gotten the two (2!!!!) Panda Chronicles Books yet, it has a nifty discount through the month of April, which is only available to newsletters subscribers.

Be the Bear!

It’s Fabulous Furry Friday with a NEW cartoon! (I can’t resist a good “scandal”)

One of the most fun things about panda satire is the ability to make fun of things that, quite frankly, aren’t very funny.  Also, you can “imply” things about non-panda related events by portraying it as pandas doing stuff. Just what am I implying here? I’m not telling!

Scandal in our nation’s capitol? I’m shocked!

"It was dark....there were men in masks...."

“It was dark….there were men in masks….”

Thanks for joining the pandas for launch week!  If you can’t access the createspace e-store, you can still find The Panda Chronicles Book 2: Wheel…of…Pandas! on Amazon!   Huzzah!  I think this discount code only works on createspace:

Thanks for joining in the fun!  Stay tuned for news of a book signing/launch party at our beloved Langley bookstore, Moonraker Books.

Woo hoo! More Pandas (and Cats!) for Launch week of Book 2 of the Panda Chronicles!

As I noted yesterday, I am humbled and pleased by the wonderful reviews that some of YOU, panda satire fans extraordinaire, have shared on Amazon. I admit (like most authors, even those who aren’t pandas) to having a love /hate relationship with Amazon. I adore my local bookshop, Moonraker Books, in beautiful downtown Langley, and do 99% of my book buying there.  But, Langley is a small town, and if I want to achieve WORLD PANDA SATIRE DOMINATION, not to mention encourage the MacArthur Foundation to add Panda Satire to their list of supported genres, well, we have to take our pandas on the road, as it were.

I hope you will add your voice to those who have already stepped up and said, “Yes!  We love panda satire!  Be the Bear!  Where are the cuppycakes?” Thanks!

Also, I’ve been around and about on the Internet, this time writing a guest post for the fabulous blog, Cordelia Calls it Quits.   I love Cordelia’s posts, which speak to my inner panda (also she has a thing for pandas as well, so, I was thrilled to be asked to write something for her. Check it out here!

And now, will Mehitabel escape from the panda kindergarten?

Run,kitty, run!

Run,kitty, run!

Don’t forget!  It’s launch week here at The Panda Chronicles and you can still use this code

Oh yes, it IS Mr Wu Wednesday!

Would we even consider getting out of bed on Wednesdays, were it not for Mr. Wu?  We would not! Who would think that such a small panda could capture so many hearts?  Heck, I’d kiss him if his mother was nowhere around. While at the panda convention, which took place on Mr Wu’s home turf, the San Diego Zoo, one of the panda staff suggested that Yun Zi, Mr Wu’s resident big brother, is your typical teenager.  Another of our pandateers suggested that perhaps he would ride a skateboard and have an affinity for video games.  At least he doesn’t wear his pants hanging down.

Oh, wait.  he doesn’t wear pants…he’s a panda.

It is so hard for a small panda to prevail....

Wheel…of …PANDAS! It’s HERE!!!!!!!!

I can’t believe I almost forgot that it is fabulous furry Friday!

I do have an excuse, and you probably don’t want the details, since it involves things that come out of one’s nose…OK, I’ll stop there.  Suffice it to say, that my head and brain are a bit clogged at the moment. So, hmmmmm….what cartoon to choose for a fuzzy headed day….?

Nothing is quicker than a bunny, unless it is the panda kindergarten in bunny suits!

Nothing is quicker than a bunny, unless it is the panda kindergarten in bunny suits!

Seems like panda kindergarteners in bunny suits is a good thing for a Good Friday…. (Easter being a chocolate holiday, and all)

Today, you are a bear.

Today, you are a bear.

…And in the interests of being ecumenical, we bring you The Bear Mitzvah, since in addition to being Easter, it is also Passover.

Have a wonderful Friday.  It is sunny here on Whidbey Island, which you will enjoy if your house hasn’t just slid down an embankment.

Be the Bear!

Bob T. Panda

Did I forget it is Mr Wu Wednesday? Heck, NO!

As I said on Monday, I am a bit behind the time due to high level meetings with Pandas Worldwide at our annual conference.  Fortunately, I had managed to smuggle a transcript of the keynote address, delivered by none other than Mr. Wu!  And now, through the magic of the internet, I can share it with you now.  Huzzah!

What will that little bear say next? Poor mountain village, indeed.
