It’s the Year of the Horsie!

What with getting ready for our Kickstarter project ready to launch this week, and putting the finishing touches on The Panda Chronicles Book 4: The Book of Wu, we are way behind with everything else.

But here at long last, we bring you The Panda Chronicles Salute to The Year of the Horsie, as only Mr. Wu, the Twinkies, and Princess Pinky can salute! (Does this mean that Wu, Twinkies, and Pinky are the part of the new panda kindergarten class? I think you know the answer to that!)

Huzzah! It’s The year of Pandas on Horsies!

Uh oh, it looks like Princess Pinky found the latest hiding place for her magical wand.  Better find a new, better hiding place, mom!

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. We woke to snow this morning, almost a whole inch! Hey, don’t throw stuff at me! It’s not like we don’t have our own form of lousy weather here in the Northwest!

Be the Bear,
Bob T. Panda

Stay tuned for some special announcements this week!

Mr. Wu has a surprise coming….

…and it is not necessarily a good one. Sigh…There comes a time in a young bear’s life, when he is pushed out into the world.  We don’t know if Bai Yun and her betrothed bear Gao Gao will hear the flapping of the storks wings one more time, but nevertheless, unlike so many young people these days, living at home with mom providing three meals and laundry service is not an option for Mr. Wu.

Sing ‘ho” for the life of a bear.

Xiao Liwu and Bai Yun

Too soon, too soon, a Wu and his mom will go their separate ways…

There is still work to be done to prepare for the launch of the  Pandamorphosis kickstarter project. But also in panda satire news this month, Here at The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire, we are donating $1 to Pandas International for each Panda Chronicles book sold for the entire month of February. Huzzah!

Here’s today’s image from Pandamorphosis!

It’s a WUnderful life: the epilogue

Happy New Year from The Panda Chronicles!

A short epilogue to It’s a WUnderful Life popped into my head as I was finishing up the previous episode, and so here it is, from my brain (on pandas) to your brain (on pandas.)

it's a wonderful life parody

A bear and his mom…together forever? What lengths will Bai Yun go to to get the hammock all to herself?

I just wanted to let you know about a few minor scheduling changes for the upcoming year.  I still plan on doing two new cartoons a week, plus a Friday encore presentation of an older cartoon or two.  Sometimes they will have themes that echo something that is happening in the real world or panda world, but mostly, they are just cartoons that I really like, and want to give you the chance to see them and tell me how funny I am. Mr wu will continue to control Wednesdays, at least for a while. Princess Pinky, the twins, and all the rest will have to share the sunday time-slot. Sorry.

The other change is that instead of posting on Monday, I will post on Sunday, later in the afternoon.  In fact, all posts will happen later in the afternoon, about 4 PM PST/PDST.  As much as I have tried to take myself in ..um…paw, I am powerless to resist the siren song of Facebook and other social media.  I love “meeting” and talking with you all there.  I plan to continue this, just not in my “prime work time.”  I have paintings to paint, and (more importantly) pandas to draw, and not enough of y work is getting done before I sign into have a lovely visit with you all.

I know you will all understand, and of course want these pandas to keep on coming your way, for which I am extremely grateful.  Your kind words, enthusiasm, (and yes, even your agitated responses to all the harrowing situations I have put Mr Wu in this last year) have touched me, delighted me, and spurred me on to greater heights of panda satire and drawing than I ever dreamed was possible. I hope you will want to continue reading The Panda Chronicles.  I love your comments, even when you yell at me.

If you would like to support my efforts here, there are three meaningful ways to do so:
1: share this blog with your humor loving friends.  They don’t even have to be panda fans.  The Panda Chronicles have converted more than one person to the cause of pandas!
2: Write a review of any or all of my books on Amazon and/or Goodreads. This really does help my visibility, which helps to sell more books.
3: (you knew this was coming) Buy my books! Buy them for yourself, buy them for presents.  You can go directly to Amazon from the Panda Chronicles: the Books page.

Here’s to the upcoming year in pandas! (and if you want to be the first to know, sign up for my free, every once in a while news letter to be in the know (if you know what I mean!) Just look for the sign-up form titled  Get Even More Pandas near the top of the right hand column!

Day 10 Behind the scenes at the Wizard of Wu!

You know how when you get a DVD these days, it has all these “special features” like interviews, “the making of…”  blooper reels…well, we wanted to have a bunch of that stuff too.  And so, 31 Days of Pandas is pleased to bring you….

wizard of Oz satire

Stay tuned later this month for the outtakes and blooper reel!

Pandas will NEVER get the better of Mehitabel!

And if you’re still on the fence about what to get Aunt Mildred and Uncle Larry, (not to mention your brother in law) for Christmas, Kwanzaa or Hanukkah, there’s still time to order The Panda Chronicles Book 1, 2, or 3! Keep Panda Satire alive and well by buying our books!

#7 Mr Wu Wednesday: Even with NO Flying Monkeys, it’s Scary

Oh dear, I just can’t look.  You look and tell me what’s happening! Is Mr Wu OK?  Are you on the edge of your seat?

Good.

The wicked cat of the west attacks Mr Toasty

That cat is pure evil!

I know, I know, I’m introducing the bucket of water too early, and the witch is supposed to be afraid of water.  I could have had Mr. Toasty’s bread catch fire, but somehow, I didn’t think he’d recover from that.

Uh Oh… the trouble is starting in episode 9…

…of Mr Wu’s adventure in Pandyland. Is this a good time to point out that Monday’s post of Princess Pinky was very popular? The Wu Self does not think it is appropriate to promote Princess Pinky on Mr Wu Wednesday. He wants to know if there could be at least ONE bleeping day that Princess Pinky DOES NOT push her way into every cartoon??????

Um….not really.

Mr Wu meets up with someone who looks a lot like his brother, shortly after setting out on his journey

I have a bad feeling about this….

What ever will happen next????

Be the Bear!

Bob T. Panda

It’s Mr Wu Wednesday! Look out Mr Wu!

This is the part in the movie version, that stars the girl and a dog, where I put my head under the covers and don’t come out till…well, you know, the end part where Dorothy finds out it was all a dream.

We did promise that there would be no flying monkeys, but we didn’t promise that it wouldn’t be scary.  Just sayin’

Mr Wu hears a cry for help

Are you SURE there will be no flying monkeys?

The adventure continues!

The Wizard of Wu: Episode 8

Is it here yet? Did Bob post the newest episode of The Wizard of Wu, Mr. Wu’s exciting adventure, yet? No, Oh heck…my boss just went by again and saw the pandas on my screen. Okay, wait… Yay! It’s here!

Xiao Liwu has to journey to see the wizard

Okay, now it’s getting exciting! Scary parts dead ahead!

Binky and Pinky and Bunnies, oh my!*  Mr Wu is in for it now! He is going to have to follow the cuppycake road, in order to find the Wizard of Wu, who will help him (we hope!) find his way back home to his family and some of that happily ever after stuff.  Is this getting exciting or what?  WE don’t even know what is going to happen next or who Mr Wu will meet along the way. Or is that “whom”?  Anyway, we’re in for a bumpity ride!

In other exciting panda satire news…..
There has been a small bit of movement on my wordless children’s picture book, Pandamorphosis.  I don’t want to reveal too much before it’s time, but no matter what the Chinese calendar says, I believe that next year will be the year of the panda.  Huzzah!

I will tell you a bit about Pandamorphosis’ news in my monthly newsletter that I hope to have out…um…next week. So, if you’re not signed up yet, just get yourself up to the top of the right-hand column and make sure you’re signed up! Newsletter subscribers get the news first, even before the panda kindergarten. Don’t worry about signing up twice.  The smart folks over at MailChimp won’t let you do that.  Also, if you used to get The Panda Chronicles in your inbox or news  reader, your subscription went away when I switched to a self hosted website (here) so you will need to re-sign-up if you want to get this sent to you. Hey it’s free, and this way you don’t have one more thing to remember to do. Again, the sign-up is at the top of the right-hand column.

But Wait, There’s More!

I’m taking part in Dana Sitar’s ManiWriMo, which stands for National Manifesto Writing Month, which is inspired by NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) both of which take place in November.  She has formed a group of (mostly) writers to spend the month writing their personal manifesto, as a group, with the goal of publishing it as an e-book.  You don’t have to publish, but as a long time artist, I know how valuable a tool this is in clarifying your creative vision, to yourself, as well as others.

The title of my Pandafesto (you know I had to change this to a panda word, didn’t you?) is:

Letting Loose the Bears: The Panda Chronicles’ Guide to Embracing Your Inner Panda.

I think there will be cartoons in the pandafesto, in order to illustrate some of my key points.
If you’re interested in joining in with your own personal manifesto (or pandafesto) there’s still time.  It’s free, it’s fun, and you might get clarity about your creative goals, and maybe even a book! Join me at ManiWriMo!

Be the Bear!

PS: Thanks for joining me here at the Panda Chronicles. While this content is free for you and everyone else to enjoy, I would love it if you decided you wanted to have the pandas come to stay with you, in book form, of course. (those pesky zoos won’t even let me have one for the weekend!) Just click on one of the handy buttons in the right hand column, which will take you to Amazon, where you can buy one or more of my books. Huzzah, and thank you!

Oh That Evil Cat! Episode 7 of The Wizard of Wu

Helloooo fans of Mr Wu.  Oh, what a couple of exciting weeks it’s been! What with the Princess Pinky panda cam shutdown, and the twinkies about to get their real names (I don’t know why Zoo Atlanta has NOT returned my many phone calls lobbying for the names Bert and Ernie!)

But now it is Mr Wu Wednesday and all those other pandas should just step aside and let Mr Wu have the stage!  For those of you who have just started following The Panda Chronicles, we have a new practice here at The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire.  At least once a month, I will run ALL the cartoons that are part of an extended story series, thus relieving you of the tedious chore of sorting through all the previous posts to try to find out where the story started.

Of course, if you sign up for my mailing list, once a month you will get a little communique from me, which contains a downloadable pdf of one of Mr Wu’s earlier adventure and other panda satire news!  Huzzah! Commercial over. Huzzah! BTW, in the works is a collection of ALL the Mr Wu cartoons, from the beginning of his adorable life. Okay, NOW commercial over. Huzzah!

Mr. Wu continues his adventure in the mysterious land of….

…well, we don’t actually know where this land is, but it sure isn’t Pandiego, or even Kansas, for that matter.   From Mr Wu’s former black and white world, he enters a land of ..um…well, it’s still glorious black and white, but if I ever had the time to do it as a full color picture book, this is when we would shift to glorious color!

There are some folks in this strange new world that Mr Wu will meet that remind him of those he knows back in the real world, including some that he considers interlopers into his world domination of cuteness. Sigh.  Are even our dreams and fantasies subject to all those annoying elements of our life that we would like to escape?

Apparently so….

Mr Wu landas in the cuppycake region of pandyland in this episode of his new adventure

Don’t I know you from somewhere?

Aren’t you glad we’ve returned to Mr Wu’s adventure? (although we can’t exactly promise that we won’t comment on current events…in fact there could be some similar events taking place in the land of Wu….)

Meanwhile, we seem to have resolved our technical difficulties of Monday. It seems I used a picture with the wrong 3 letters at the end.  Sigh. That’s what happens when you are a bear on the run. I’ll try to pay more attention!

Be the Bear

PS: I’m devastated to say that I was not selected to win the all expenses paid trip to Atlanta to be present at the naming ceremony of the Atlanta Twin pandas.  I guess that makes it okay for me to continue to call them Bert and Ernie.
