Day 8: 31 Days of Pandas

On with our encore presentations for Wu: This is Your LIFE!!!! What’s up next for the adventures of Wu? Well, let’s just pop into the old archives and see what has frosting on it!

But first, I wanted to let you know that I’ve just started writing a monthly (or so) blog for our own Whidbey Island Arts Council. It is more of an “arts on Whidbey” sort of venue, but if that interests you, I hope you’ll check it out. Here is my first post for them!

But Meanwhile…what about the Wu Self???

Fanmail from some Flounder?

Uh oh…is this the beginning of another adventure for Mr. Wu?

Voices in the night, a ladder, a letter…adios…

“Are we there, yet?”

This is a case for…Inspector Panda!

Oh Boy! Tune in again tomorrow for the next installment of this story. And while we’re here, consider subscribing to this blog so you never have to worry about Fezbook deciding that this is not important enough to show up in your news feed! Pandas will arrive at your door and demand cookies! Well, okay, they’ll show up in your email inbox, but that’s kind of similar, right?

Day 7: 31 Days of Pandas

Oh my! It is hard to read the Twidder News these days! Better head over here and catch up on some vintage panda stories.

Nothing like a snappy graphic to um…solve a problem!

So much for those new navigation systems…or is it “nagagation systems”?

I just had to include something with that provocative “rear panda view” you know!

I might have left a few of the segments out but if you had The Panda Chronicles Book 4: The Book of Wu, you’d have the whole story! Huzzah!

And just to remind us of what’s been going on around here this last year…

It is too much to BEAR!

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Day 5: 31 Days of Pandas

Oh what a tangled web Wu did weave,
When with the panda kindergarten
He did deceive
His mom, who took such good care,
Ot the adorable Wu Bear

I’m ready for my Nobel prize in poetry!

Whatever could be in the box the panda kindergarten is delivering to Mr. Wu?

Will the panda kindergarten get it put together before Bai Yun gets home?

“Up in the Air, Junior Pandas…”

And what better gift for the Wu lover in your life than the collected stories of Mr. Wu, Volume 4 of The Panda Chronicles: The Book of Wu, available right here at this link! Tis the season to give the gift of pandas!

Panda on,

Day 2: 31 Days of Pandas

Today we start with the baby Wu stories! These are some of my favorites, as they were the first time I realized the joy of creating alternate characters for actual real pandas! Sooooo, in that sense, Pinky’s persona is all Mr. Wu’s fault!

Am I right?

This was the very first Mr. Wu ‘toon!

Mr. Wu made many cameo appearances before he started appearing in feature stories.

“Wu calls his dance, ‘Ode to a Weaf’ ” The real life Mr. Wu had great fun playing with leaves, which inspired this ‘toon.

Thank you all for coming! Buy my book here!

Tune in tomorrow for the next episode of 101 Bebe Panda-Nation!

Fabulous Furry Friday Gets Ready….

…for 31 Days of Pandas!!!!!

I am making a bit of a change to this years festivities, as with my various projects, I am a bit overloaded to do a new cartoon every day. (Booo! Hisss! Quiet in the cheap seats, you pandas!)

As you might remember, I am working on revising my story about Mr. Wu and Inspector Panda, where they are faced with a painting that may (or may not) have been stolen. Not to mention an international panda of mystery! Anyway, here is my plan for this year’s 31 Days of Pandas:

A new cartoon posted every Sunday, multiple episodes each day from some of my longer stories, and, sketches from my work in progress, staring the aforementioned Mr Wu in what I hope will be my first traditionally published middle grade graphic novel. But have no fear! Should the folks in trad. publishing say, “oh no! this is too weird! We can’t publish this! A Panda Detective? Bah, Humbug!” We will bring it to you as all the other Panda Chronicle books have been brought to you, via Leaping Panda Press! Huzzah!

So to get us off to a good start, here are the drawings that I have come up with so far, along with some colorful character sketches.

Yes, Mr. Wu gets to be the smart one!

Fabulous Furry Friday

Wouldn’t you know it…a little while ago I had an idea about what I wanted to post for this week’s Fabulous Furry Friday offering, and now I can’t remember what it was. This happens more often than I wish it would. I don’t know if it indicates impending dementia, or that there is just too much going on in my life and my brain is full so nothing new sticks to the surface. Is that really a thing?

Meanwhile, as I write this, the wind is howling, small branches are hitting the roof, and who knows how long we will have electricity?

Hey! That reminds me….

where happy pandas eat bamboo, oh why, oh why, can't...Wu?

I don’t think we’re in Pandiego any more, Binky….

I’m really hoping this doesn’t happen here. In the meantime, if you had your own copy of The Panda Chronicles Book 4: The Book of Wu, you could read the rest of this story of The Wizard of Wu, even if your power went out. well, if you had a flashlight. You do know where your flashlight is, right?

Baby, it’s cold out there!

*F.F.F. Salutes The Wee Wu Self!*

*Fabulous Furry Friday salutes the Wee Wu Self! (*Thank you and a cuppycake to Stevi G. for coining that descriptive phrase about the wu self! It’s perfect.)

Since recently we saluted the Meihems on the occasion on their second birthday, This week we will salute Mr. Wu, who is no longer two, or at least Mr. Wu, no longer “wee” is now turning three. Really, the poetry police should be here any minute. Should I give you full credit for this rhyme, Stevi?

I will try to find some Wu-toons that have not been rebroadcast lately, but you know I love the Wu self so much, I show his cartoons whenever I can.

Here are a selection from each of Wu’s adventures, which (beware, advertisement coming) can be found in his very own book, The Panda Chronicles Book 4: The Book of Wu. You know you want it!

Mr Wu’s first adventure with the rascally panda kindergarten, saw him sail the high seas in his little donut floaty. Which is pretty funny, because Mr Wu would avoid baths at all costs.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of boo beer!

And then there was the time Mr. Wu built an airplane (with the help of the panda kindergarten…

Will the panda kindergarten get it put together before Bai Yun gets home?

But once safely on the ground (not to mention grounded for life) Mr Wu’s resolve to not get mixed up with the pandy kindy did not last long…

It's a Wonderful Life Parody

This one was a real tear-jerker….

So, now you know, if you don’t have Mr. Wu’s book already, you need it, right? There will be more from Pinky’s presidential campaign next week, but today, let’s celebrate Mr.wu’s Birthday, just a couple of days ago on July 29th!

Mr Wu Goes Rogue

Really, it is getting extremely…um…naughty pandish around here. Princess Pinky is on a rampage, getting on 60 Minutes, being interviewed by Oprah…where will it all end????

And now, Mr Wu, who has always been such a good little panda, at least in comparison to Princess Pinky, is giving unauthorized news reports on ZooNooz. Okay, so Mr. Wu went on a whole bunch of adventures with the panda kindergarten, and all, but now that he’s gotten a good job as Inspector Panda’s assistant, we thought that he would walk the straight and narrow.

Even the real life Mr. Wu has been a bit of a bad boy lately. Taking a page from his brother Yun Zi the destroyer, no doubt!

An election recap from Mr. Wu...

An election recap from Mr. Wu…

Perhaps Mr. Wu has been hanging out with Pinky just a little too much.

By the way, not only is today Mr wu’s actual Birthday, it is also World Tiger Day! Mehitabel says Huzzah! Here are some bonus tiger cartoons to celebrate the day!

Much better to take a selfie with pandas!

Inspector Panda Returns

Well, actually, we haven’t actually seen Inspector Panda, his very own self, since Mr. Wu went roaring off with the panda kindergarten. I’m sure he’s around here somewhere…he’s probably hot on Babette’s trail, with the purloined tape in his sights…yeah…that’s it!

Meanwhile, Mr Wu is learning more about the scholarly activities of the panda kindergarten. Art Historians! Who knew????

I didn't get a decoder watch when I graduated from art school!

And, not to belabor the point, but this Friday marks the release of Book 5 of the Panda Chronicles: Pandapocalypse Now! Huzzah! Inspector Panda would like to point out that he has a cameo appearance or two in Book 5, just in case you were interested!

Be the Bear,

Panda Art History…Who Knew?

I would hate to think that all those years of sleeping through paying rapt attention in Art History classes had gone to waste. Inspector Panda’s current case has therefore taken an extremely art historical turn, as if it hadn’t been traveling those roads already.

The panda kindergarten has more facets than a dodecahedron, and it turns out that they all have degrees in panda art history. Who knew? And if you are just tuning in, don’t forget to check out all the previous episodes here:

What you don't know about your favorite art museum....

And look at those stacks of paintings! Did you realize there were so many fine art pandas in existence?

And look at those stacks of paintings! Did you realize there were so many fine art pandas in existence?

Next time you are at the National Gallery, go and ask at the information desk if you can be taken to see the secret stash of paintings of pandas by all the greats of the 16th through 20th centuries. The National Gallery has a lovely Mary Cassatt that Minette modeled for. And the “Little Panda Dancer” by Edgar Degas is exquisite! Just ask at the front desk, and don’t take ‘no’ for an answer. They’re just being modest.
