It’s Binky Li’s 5th Birthday. Will He Flunk Cake?

While Grand Mei and Grand Tian are coping with Pinky’s tiny terrors adorable twins, Pinky is speeding her way to get back to the DC Panda House to celebrate Binky Li’s 5th birthday! What could possibly go wrong?

We’re just asking questions, here….

The real NooZ out of DC is mostly terrible and I can barely stand to listen to Mittens tell ever more outlandish lies or listen to Brain Worm Guy’s garbage disposal of a voice bashing science and experts. Good for Dana Bash for smacking back when he croaked “well, you’re not a scientist” and she said “you’re not either.” He probably isn’t used to women talking back to him.

Anyway, the eastern part of my state is in flames, our AQI is about to go in the toilet, and groceries are going through the roof. We should just turn everything off except the panda cams (and The Panda Chronicles)

I’m going to try really hard to get at least one new ‘toon a week and run some of Pinky’s our greatest hits on the other day. I think it may vary which day gets the new ‘toon, depending on other work load and frequency of naps.

It’s Still Panda Birthday Season

I was….um…busy making cakes for pandas so I don’t have the next episode of what’s happening at Camp GrandMei ready for you. I did, however, sweep and mop my studio!

Here are some favorites from Panda Birthday Seasons past!

Still one of my all time favorites!

I hoped you enjoyed this trip down panda memory lane! Now, let’s have some cake!

One More From the Archives, Before Getting Back to Work

Um…you call this work?

So, I have been on a top secret mission to Iceland and Scotland, but alas, there are no pandas remaining in Scotland, although I did see a cow or two that looked like they might be distant relations. I was attending an art retreat, about an hour outside of Edinburgh. It was fabulous! As soon as I get organized (ha ha ha ha ha!) and scan the drawings I did in my sketch books, I will share them, most likely over on Substack, where I am Friendly to Bears. (because of course I am.)

So, it was Tai Shan’s bear-day this week, and he turned 21! But I was not making panda satire back when he was a cubby so I only have a couple references of him in the ‘toons.

This is one of my favorites:

oops.
Oh Princess Pinky, mom has a trick or two up her paw, I think…
Beware, the power of the paw!
Pinky answers difficult questions from the press in her own way.
Could Mama Mei Xiang really be contemplating letting Pinky loose on the pandy kindy?
Never say “No” to a Pinky!

I knew there was a reference somewhere about Tai giving Pinky her magical wand!

Anyway, back to work next week with some new ‘toons for your enjoyment!

To Bee or Not to Bee

Recently I’ve begun to invite friends of the Panda Chronicles to request specific encore presentations for my regular Sunday offering. This week, by request, I’m highlighting Bee the Bear!

I had to think for a minute about how Bee (the Bear) came into bee-ing! It all came rushing back, when I remembered that when I did my 2nd Kickstarter campaign to publish my first collection of ‘toons in printed form, a friendly bee-keeper here on Whidbey offered some local honey as an extra incentive to contribute to my campaign.

Of course I had to design a label!

Bee, the Bear; my original drawing.

Later I revised her a little bit:

Beeeeeeeee!

and also…

cheerful
Bee-lieve!

When Mr. Wu came along, Bee (the Bear) appeared in many of Mr. Wu’s adventures, including the story when he ran off with the panda kindergarten and joined the circus, The Wizard of Wu, and It’s a Wunderful Life!

Okay, now it’s getting exciting! Scary parts dead ahead!
It's a Wonderful Life parody
What part of “you don’t exist” didn’t you get? Ha ha! I love that line!

And while we’re on the subject, (what subject was that?) It’s almost birthday month for Mr. Wu, and the Meihem twins, so the Sundays of July will be filled with encore presentations with Mr. Wu and the Meihems! (Pinky Junior shares [NOT DAT WORDS!!!!] her birthday [July 29th] with The Wu Self!) The wizard of Wu always has an encore presentation in October and it’s a Wonderful Life, during the Christmas holiday season. I’ll reprise Mr. Wu’s entire circus adventure during his birthday month!

August, of course, will be full of the House of the Xiang-Tian clan! Definitely something to look forward to!

I hope you enjoyed this visit with Bee (the Bear)!
