Fabulous Furry Friday

I can’t believe I’ve never done a St. Patrick’s Day cartoon with the pandas. On a trip to Pittsburgh a few years ago, I was reminded what a big deal it is there, and on my recent trip last month, indeed, there were already green frosting decorated cookies in the grocery store. Oddly enough, I resisted (although I definitely did NOT resist cuppycakes!) So that leaves me with the dilemma of what ‘toons to share for this Fabulous Furry Friday …

How about a little Meihem????

Atlanta twin panda cubs Mei Lun and Mei Huan and older prother Po

Huzzah! a guest appearance by little Po!

Atlanta Twins have a fight

Sweet dreams, little bears!

One of the little known wonders of the world.

Pandas are standing by to take your calls!

Still one of my favorites…”How does you spell ‘hostage?” “

The first appearance of the twinkies on The Panda Chronicles

And who can forget the first time we learned that Lun Lun had twins?

Hope you have a Fabulous, Furry Weekend!

Contract Renewal

Did you know that pandas are under contract to live at zoo’s around the world? Well, they also have a contract here at the Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire. I bet you didn’t know that, and guess who is in charge of the contract process?

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Who hired Pinky to do this?

On other business, I wanted to update you all on my project to raise money for the ACLU and Planned Parenthood. Congratulations to us all. We raised just over $2000 for these worthy organizations. I’m still sending out the last few ‘toons with sketches. We will definitely do this again! Thank you so much for supporting these causes. The fight is not over by a long shot.

As an added benefit to me, I had some great email exchanges with those who donated and feel like I’ve made more real personal connections with some of you, including some I had not met or talked to before. This is one of the truly magic thing about this thing we do here. Rather than the world becoming more impersonal, I am making new friends all over the world.

Thank you.

Spring Back, Fall Forward

Hey! Guess what’s coming up this Sunday morning in the teeny tiny hours when all good little pandas are asleep? That’s right! It’s time to Spring Forward…um…or is that Spring Back? I can never remember! whatever it is, I can pretty much guarantee that I will either be an hour early or an hour late for yoga on Sunday morning!

So let’s start our Fabulous Furry Friday encore presentation with this classic of panda satire!!!!

Bob explains daylight savings time to the panda kindergarten

spring back, fall forward?

And if it’s time to turn the clock forward, it means we are nearing the end of the annual Panda Scout cookie Sale!

On my honor, I will try…to eat as many cookies as I possibly can….

And that means, Easter is right around the corner…

What’s Black and White and carries cuppycakes in a basket?

A tiskitt a taskitt , a great big wheelie basket!

And…um…don’t forget, I have a new book out!!!!

International Women’s Day

I really hadn’t planned to go on strike today, but some people involved with International Women’s Day thought it would  be a good thing if all women went on strike, so you could see what we actually do around here.

So I leave you with a very short post (which I am actually writing on Tuesday) which I hope you’ll read, if not on Wednesday, then on Thursday when I share this post around the inter webs.

Now, go pick up your own socks.*

Are you going away with no word of farewell

The departure of Bao Bao from the National Zoo in Washington DC is far from the last thing on all of our minds. (Thanks to the Cameron Cat for reminding me of yet another song of farewell for our Bye-Bye-Bao-Bao playlist) In fact, I think her flight took off this past Tuesday or Wednesday for the 16+ hour flight to China. As I’ve said before, her fictional counterpart, that precocious proponent of panda privilege, Princess Pinky, is not going anywhere. Huzzah!!!! She will remain right here where she belongs.

After all, she is one of my favorite characters and in some ways, she seems to write herself, as they say. I draw her tiara and the words pour forth from her mouth. I’m absolutely sure that this is no reflection on me or any secret plans for world domination or anything like that. You…um…do believe me, right?

So sit back and enjoy one more Fabulous Furry Friday round-up of some of my (and I hope your) favorite Pinky ‘toons!

farewell

Fast furry friends…for now

Send cuppycakes and magical wands!

This is still one of my favorites!

Oh dear….are you going to leave her there?

Mei puts her paw down…

Let Pinky be Pinky! That’s what I say!

Story Time With Bubba

Isn’t Bubba a sweet boy? Reading a story to General Bun and Banky Pig! And wouldn’t you know, that Pinky would come in and disrupt the peaceful scene. While the real Princess Pinky packs her belongings and gets ready for the long flight to China, OUR Princess Pinky is digging in for the long haul.

One of these days, Bubba needs to put a lock on that door.

I wouldn’t believe any of Pinky’s stories, Bubba!

And now that I have your attention, here is the FULL cover for the newest offering from the Panda Chronicles! Huzzah! Any day now it will be available to add to your panda library!

My opening farewell

No, I’m not going anywhere, so you can stop hyperventilating right this minute. But the real life inspiration for Princess Pinky, that American icon of the Smithsonian institute, out there in the OTHER Washington, Bao Bao, daughter of Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, has to leave for China next week. So, devastated as we are, we must say farewell to that adorable ball of fluff that we love so well. All this month, Fabulous Furry Friday celebrates her royal self. So here’s today’s plethora of Pinkys!!!!

Pinky is a STAR!!!!!

Princess Pinky helps with new years resolutions

You say you want a resolution, well, you know, it is hard to change a bear….

Bao Bao is unhappy

Could Mama Mei Xiang really be contemplating letting Pinky loose on the pandy kindy?

Sochi Winter Olympics, Pandas

I keep hearing the song “bears on the Run” going through my head…the ski run, that is!

Never say “No” to a Pinky!

Those girls are a force to be reckoned with.

Tune in again on Sunday for the rest of the Book 7 cover reveal!

A Farewell to Pandas

We knew this day was coming… the day when we would have to bid a fond farewell to the light and the hope of Washington DC, the inimitable Bao Bao. Here, in these pages, she is better know as Princess Pinky, the terror of Connecticut Avenue, purloiner of Banky Pigs, and tormentor of little brothers. I did not set out to make her a tyrant. It’s just how she evolved. And, I gotta say, she has been a blast to write and draw, and just because the actual Boa Boa is being sent to her ancestral homeland, it’s no reason that Pinky can’t remain here.

Sorry Bubba. She refused to go.

So, as she prepares for her journey later this month, let’s have a tribute to Princess Pinky!!!

Pinky tests her powers….

Pinky has always stood for…um…Pinky’s rights! Aw…this was a cake walk to what’s coming now.

Pinky answers difficult questions from the press in her own way. So much for Fake News!

Don’t worry, we’ll bring you more of Pinky’s greatest hits all through February!

And hold on to your hats! Book 7 of The Panda Chronicles is making it’s way through production and will hopefully be available by the time of the Atlanta Cubvention! Stay tuned to this station. And in the meantime, make sure your library is up to date with all the other Panda Chronicles collections!

Summit Talks

The talks between world (cough cough) leaders are not the only summit talks that are now happening around the world. The question is one that has puzzled philosophers for centuries: What do pandas talk about, when they talk about ‘boo? And more importantly, are panda moms the true power behind the curtain?

Give me a cuppycake and a bamboo lever and I will move the world!

Summit

“Why can’t my children be as well behaved as Lun Lun’s,” mused Mei Xiang

Meanwhile, my project to raise funds for Planned Parenthood and the ACLU is going very well. The offer is in effect through February and the details are here:

Donate $50 to either the ACLU or Planned Parenthood and get a signed copy of a cartoon, with a hand drawn sketch on it.
Donate $100 to either the ACLU or Planned Parenthood and get 2 signed cartoons with a hand drawn sketch on them.
Donate $500 to either the ACLU or Planned Parenthood and get an original hand drawn cartoon of my* choice (unframed) (* you can tell me who your favorite panda characters are and I will make a selection based on that info)

Just send me a screenshot of your donation receipt dated between January 31st and February 28th, along with your mailing address, and I will send them out as I receive them. US addresses only, please. Send info/receipt to yourbrainonpandas@gmail.com. Let’s see if we can raise some $$ for these organizations! Pandas are standing by!

Thanks to all who have donated so far!

Death and Taxes

Accountability is always the question, isn’t it? Especially when it comes to paying taxes and Bubba is right to distrust the tax collector. Should Pinky required to hand over her tax returns? Certainly there are one or two other people around DC who might need to do that.

Meanwhile, I have been so heartened both by the contributions that are being made in honor of The Panda Chronicles (“And Mehitabel! Don’t forget Mehitabel!” said…um…Mehitabel.) and also by the nice notes people have sent me. It means A WHOLE LOT to me that these ‘toons mean a lot to you. I am honored that you spend part of your busy days reading what I do. Those comments really brightened my day, and that is no small thing in these perilous times. You can read about my project here.

Meanwhile, Pinky is up to her old tricks…

Taxes

Uh oh…it’s the Pinky Revenue Service!

I’m trying not to think about the real Bao Bao leaving DC for China later this month. They haven’t announced the date, and I don’t think they will. She has one last party on February 11th, and sometime after that, a luxury limo will pull up to the panda house, she’ll gather her trunks and suitcases, kiss her mom and dad goodbye, poke her little brother, and head for the airport. But her alter ego is not going anywhere. I hope that will make the sadness of her departure be somewhat less. I know her real life friends Charlene, Maria, and Karen will visit her often.
