Oh my, it is the birthday celebration for Atlanta’s favorite sweethearts, the Meihem sisters, as they turn three years old! I still remember the morning the twins were born. I was…um… checking in on Facebook, because the panda keepers at Zoo Atlanta were pretty sure that mama Lun Lun was pregnant, but they had NO idea it was twins!*
Along with thousands of other panda fanatics, I was glued to the internet, awaiting the entrance of another baby panda to the world, when a cub came shooting out into the universe. (They do seem to come out at great speed). Lun Lun lept into mom mode, but turns out she wasn’t done yet. Less than a half hour later, another cub came rushing out and then we had what you might call a situation.
I did what any other right thinking panda fan would do, under those circumstances. I called another panda fan (Cyndi A) and we danced around our respective kitchens screaming like a girl.
So without further ado, I now present some of my favorite cartoon moments with the Meihems, starting with the Wu Self’s reaction to the news!
Of course all the other panda moms were on the phone to Lun Lun to congratulate her…
When the twins were born, everyone thought that they were boys, along with their sibling Po. Boy did we all have a surprise coming!
But after we found out that the Meihems were girls, they promptly joined the Panda Scouts and went to work selling cookies! Binky Bars, anyone? But of course, Pinky threw a
monkey panda wrench into the works…
But in the end, all was well that ended well, after a whole bunch more stuff happened, (which, if you had Book 5 of the Panda Chronicles, Pandapocalypse Now! you would know what happened!) and now, it’s time for some cake!!!!
I hope you enjoyed my Salute to Meihem! Join us next month when we celebrate Pinky’s third birthday and Bubba’s first!!!!
Be the Bear!

*Not only did they not know it was going to be twins, with pandas, you don’t even know for sure if they are pregnant or not.
Even though I’ve read Volume 5, your work always is fresh and fun to read. What a great tribute to the twins-can’t wait for the celebration for Bao Bao and Bei Bei-I’m sure you will surprise and outdo yourself! Thanks for the happy start to the day♥️?
Your welcome. An added benefit for me is that going through my archives to find relevant cartoons for the day reminds me of ‘toons I might not have seen for years. Of course there are some all time favorites, like the one where Mr. Wu goes nuts over the arrival of twins. I’ll use any excuse to run that one.
I wouldn’t dare not have an extravaganza for Pinky and Bubba!
I vividly remember us screaming on the phone to each other . . . happy screams . . . . ! how simple life was before Pinky arrived on the scene!
Me too! That was so fun! One of my happiest memories in the life of a pandaholic!
I’m late to the game even though I LOVE Pandas. (Lost my true love 18 months ago) But, Pinky adds a spice to life that is simply marvelous and gives the Meihems a run for their money.
Better late than never, is what I say! Glad you are enjoying the pandas, cause that’s what we’re here for. Pinky is a force of nature and a panda to be reckoned with! As Pinky told me on the phone today, “now dat we got da meihem’s and wu’s birfdays out of da way, you can start concentrating on mine. We only have a month till den, so start posting all pinky all da time. Oh, an remember to tell ebbryone vote for pinly, ‘kay?”
Happy (belated) 3rd Birthday to the Meihems! I love the ‘toon about Mr. Wu having a meltdown over their birth. And who could forget about Pinky’s devious re-routing of all traffic from Zoolanta to D.C.
Those are definitely some of my favorite story lines! Pinky is very devious, the mark of a true politician.
