Notes From the Bamboo Forest

My favorite F.T.P. (friend to pandas) Henry Nicholls, of The Way of the Panda fame,  writes that there are 3 classes of folks in regard to pandas. First are pandaphiles, those who love pandas; next are pandaphobics, who are obviously quite insane, cause who doesn’t love pandas; and next are the pandapathetics, of whom we dare not speak.  We at the Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire maintain that there are 3 more groups, in regard to pandas.  The first is pandapologists, those who make excuses for pandas; next are the pandaholics, who can usually be found watching endless panda videos on youtube, (my personal favorite is baby pandas playing on a slide).  Pandaholics can often become pandalusional, from watching too many videos of adorable pandas, and believe that they have a “special understanding of pandas”

I’m just sayin’.

Panda accessories: what the well turned out panda has!

Ok, this cartoon doesn’t have ANYTHING to do with panda accessories, but I did want to take the opportunity to send out a big pandy “thank you” to F.T.P. (that’s “friend to pandas”, if you haven’t been paying attention) Faith for her thoughtful gift of a panda tote bag!  I’m so excited!  I put some bamboo snacks in it to take on my walk to my neighbors bamboo plantation, in case I get hungry on the way there.

Stay tuned for the panda kindergarten celebration of the Chinese new year, Year of the Rabbit.!

More from the year in review….

Whilst I was pandaing around this last year, I noticed that there was a need for more books about pandas! For the last several years, we here at Way Better Than Working have been completely obsessed about, well, pandas.  Bob T’s book, Going Panda, was well received among reviewers of books written by pandas, but pretty much no one else.  Hopefully, it’s re-release at next years Pandapalooza! will bring a wider readership.

till then,

be the Bear!

The Last of the Holiday Theme Posts, or It isn’t Christmas without the Nutcracker

Well, I have to admit that my pulse races a little when I hear music from the Nutcracker ballet at christmas time, and apparently the panda kindergarten class is similarly inspired.  Coincidently, it is the third anniversary of my pandapiphany, when I first renewed my commitment to pandas.  The pandas were quietly and patiently biding their time, until I remembered their existence.  They came along at just the right time to renew my spirits. I am reminded of a popular song from the 70’s, paraphrased (or massacred, depending on your point of view):

When I find myself in times of trouble

Many pandas come to me,

Speaking words of whimsey,

Play with me, play with me.

Panda on,

More From Bob’s Year in Review!

Last February, we endured the traumatic repossession of Tai Shan, american panda.  Tai was born in the National Zoo in Washington DC in 2006 (please correct us if we are wrong) and was recalled to the panda reserve in China.  So what was that all about?  I mean, he didn’t even speak chinese, for crying out loud!  It was our understanding that he was not allowed to bring his big screen color TV and his 17″ laptop computer. because the other pandas would be “jealous.”  And, he has to share a room. I ask you, is this fair?

Well, that all the year in review for now. Till next time,

Deck the walls with lots of Bamboo

Ok, ok, I know we’ve used this one before, but give us a break, It’s Christmas Eve and all the little pandas are snug in their dens.

We are dreaming of cookies and figgy pudding (with bamboo garnish, of course)   We hope everyone is safe and warm and with someone they love.  Have a safe and happy holiday season, and remember:

1. Don’t talk on your mephone while driving.

2. Cats are not a s bad as they seem.

3. Pandas are suitable for all occaisions.

and last, but certainly not least,

4. BE THE BEAR!!!!!!!

Mehitabel the cat

Are we not Pandas? Are we not Bears?

While we contemplate with great excitement and anticipation, the arrival of pandas in Scotland in late 2011, we share with you another highlight of the Panda Olympic experience.

After the um…unfortunate incident with Mehitabel’s gingerbread house, we thought the pandas (ESPECIALLY the panda kindergarten class) should lie low for a few days.

We’d also like to invite all of our fans out there in Pandyland to vote on their favorite cartoon (on this site, so don’t vote for Dilbert or the Far Side) of the past year.  You won’t win anything if your favorite cartoon is the winner, other than a big pandy thank you for reading our humble little cartoon.

Be the Bear!!!!!

Panda on in 2011!

I think I’ll dress up in a Panda suit…..

Everyone would be a panda if they could!

There is a series of photos making the rounds and several alert panda fans have sent it to us here at Way Better Than Working enterprises.  It shows a pandologist dressed up as a panda, holding a toddler panda. How cute is THAT????? Keep those cards and letters (and emails) coming!  We can never get enough news about my panda cousins!   Mehitabel is a bit reluctant to get in touch with her “pandish” side, for some strange reason.  After all, you should never say no to a panda.

we are still very excited to have figured out how to get these posts onto my in-your-facebook page.  One small step for bears, one giant leap for pandas!
