Huzzah, Huzzah! A Panda is Born!

The pandasphere is buzzing with the news that Mei Xiang of the National Zoo in Washington D.C. has just exceeded expectations and produced a brand new bouncing baby panda!  She has not had a cub since her first little miracle bear 7 years ago, when Tai Shan, darling of the pandaratti, was born.  He  moved to China in January of 2010 and we have been waiting and hoping ever since that Mei would rise to the occasion once again!  Huzzah!

Here’s the thing about panda reproduction:  It’s really kind of tricky.  A female panda is only in season for between 24 and 72 hours in a YEAR, and then you can’t distinguish between a real pregnancy and a pseudo-pregnancy until, HEY! look at that!  there’s a cub!  Top that off with the fact that pandas are really …well…chubby to begin with, and a cub at birth weighs about 1/4 pound.  Could you tell if a panda was preggers just by looking at her?  I don’t think so….

will the pitter patter of little paws soon follow?

Congratulations, once again to Mei Xiang, husband Tian Tian, and of course all the nanny keepers at the National Zoo! It is a happy day indeed.

Meanwhile, back at the Kickstarter ranch, we need at least $434 to make our goal by this thursday at noon.  If you were waiting until the last minute, that last minute is here now!  If only 18 more people pledge $25, the first book of the Panda Chronicles will be a reality!   Huzzah!

This is a day to be the bear!

Um…excuse me but…..

Well, here we are, almost halfway through our Kickstarter campaign and let’s face it folks, pandas are lookin’ a LITTLE endangered, if you know what I mean.  Is everyone on vacation, or what?

So just a word to the wise(guys)…to those who have already pledged, HUZZAH! and thank you, but your work is not done!  Spread the word of panda satire and let all you friends know how gosh darn funny it is, and how their lives would be so much better with this book on their books shelf!

And those who haven’t gotten around to it yet?  No time like the present, I always say.  and, then after you pledge, tell 5 of your friends!  They’ll thank you later.  really, they will.

Mehitabel thanks you!

And by the way, I just read a few of the plays that my brother wrote, which were inspired by The Panda Chronicles (and that playwright…what’s him name? Shakspur or something like that?) and written for the 31 Plays in 31 Days writing challenge.  Ha ha!  I will attempt to transform a few into cartoons!  We shall see…after all, the playings the thing!

Here is the obligatory Kickstarter link for today!  Huzzah!  http://kck.st/Qn6uAg

Bob and Mehitabel apologize for tasteless, sophomoric cartoons.

For those who are not following my Kickstarter project, (hint, hint) here’s the most recent update from Bob and Mehitabel.

Our lack of taste is only exceeded by our sense of the absurd.

Please excuse my technical incompetence ….

For some reason, the share buttons did not show up on the last post (AND I forgot my daily Kickstarter link!)  so here is a repeat of the cartoon I included with the reblog from Exit, Pursued by a Lark)  sorry if you are getting this twice.

After all, the playings the thing….

The world is now 31 plays, erm, richer?

Since I cannot do the linking thing (large hairy paws, and all) here is a re-blog of the post which tells about 31 plays inspired by the Scottish Panda Cartoon. Huzzah!

After all, the playings the thing….

Who says we’re silly?

We do, that’s who.  Silly is what pandas do best, and if you don’t believe me, watch an actual panda video with real toddler pandas.

So for your weekend entertainment, we have the panda kindergarten singing their run-away (meaning, that when people hear it, they run away) hit from the most famous panda musical of all times, “Panda on the Roof.”  Of course I am referring to that haunting melody, “If I were a Panda.”

So, you know how sometimes you get a song stuck in your head, and you can’t get it out, and it’s usually something that is REALLY annoying?  Well, this is one of those songs.  So whatever you do…DO NOT START SINGING THIS SONG ALONG WITH THE PANDA KINDERGARTEN.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

…if I were a panda, yadda dah dah da- da- da- AAARGH! I can’t stop!!!!!

I’ve been told that the ONLY way to STOP singing this song, is to go to my Kickstarter site and make a pledge to order a copy of this book.  See the link at the right or click on the one below!

I REALLY shouldn’t admit this….

…but I laugh out loud at my own cartoons.  A funny thing this internet stuff.  Just because I am sitting here, alone in my studio tip tapping away, as only someone with big hairy paws can do, I think, I am writing this for myself, and no one else will ever read this.  Yeah, right.

And then I “click” and all my secrets are revealed.

Well, heck, if I don’t think I’m funny, why should anyone else.  Is this the appropriate time to mention that there have been over 35,000 visits to this blog?  And not all by me?

Just checking.

Here, as promised, is part 2 of Bob and Mehitabel (and the panda kindergarten– huzzah!) Explain Kickstarter:

and that’s what it’s all about!

Stay tuned to all the bears that fit!

Huzzah, Huzzah, A bear is born!

We are quite excited to learn that a new panda cub was born to Madame Bai Yun, the queen of panda moms, at the San Diego Zoo yesterday afternoon.  (no midnight vigils for Bai! )

Now if only Mei Xiang and Ya Ya could share in the blessed events….

we are still hoping for a panda cub trifecta

Later this week…the exciting conclusion to the torch bear’s saga!

Somewhere in London, the pandas wait for the torch bears!

The opening ceremonies have begun…the pandas are at the starting post, poised by the pool, practicing pandanastics pirouettes….The glory of Pandyland is at stake. They have one goal on their minds……

Cuppycakes (or in this case, cookies.)

Huzzah!

Going for the …um…chocolate chip.

Happy Saturday!
