Anne Belov paints, writes, makes prints, and is the founder of The Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire. She also writes regularly for The Whidbey Life Magazine, a free journal of art and culture on Whidbey Island. Her main regret in life is that there is no MacArthur Grant for Panda Satire.

Panda-ing in a Winter Wonderland….

Well, Babette no sooner gets back from the beach, then it’s off to the frozen North for a Ski Vacation!  Babette is certainly  a “Bear on the Go” with her dashing through the snow alpine ski outfit.  Nothing says “Winter Wonderland” quite like Babette’s panda button quilted ski jacket and bamboo patterned cashmere scarf, scarlet ski pants and boot toppers knitted from cat fur left on the furniture!

And just who will be waiting at the bottom of the black and white diamond run as Babette comes shushing down the slopes?  Who will be ready to provide a hot cocoa and cuppycake feast in front of the roaring fire in the lodge?  Will it be the shy, but dependable Bob T. Panda?  Or, will  the dashing, devil may care artiste Claude Pandet be punching her lift ticket?

Rumor has it, Babette’s next vacation spot is “The Magic Kingdom”!

We can’t thank new panda friend Sylvia C. enough for sending these photos of Babette taking a well earned mini-holiday at the southern California coast.  All that rain, wind, and foul weather just gets a panda down, don’t ‘cha know?  Babette is wearing a stunning blue and yellow polka dot bikini…not quite teensy weensy, because, well, let’s not go there OK?

As you can see here, it’s not all play and no work!  Babette has designed and built a sand castle model of the new wing of the Hospital for Indigent Pandas.  As you know, Babette founded this hospital in Greenbank WA, and spends many hours selflessly  tending to pandas with her tender touch.  (Her nurses outfit will be showing up any day now, to add to her wardrobe!)

Here we see Babette, examining some tide pool life.  In addition to her hospital work, Babette also has a degree in Marine Biology.  Or was it that she went to a sushi bar once? Whatever.  Soon Babette will be winging her way back to the frozen north, so that she can model her new ski ensemble!

While we work on new cartoons, such as new outfits for Babette de Panda, the growing problem of panties discarded in space from the panda space shuttle program, and the panda kindergartens holiday production of “Panda on the Roof” (a musical), we bring you a panda holiday greeting!

They’re here! They’re Here! The Scottish Pandas Arrive at last!

We have been waiting for this day for so long, (never mind that in the real world it happened a week ago, but still…) the pandas arrive in Scotland.  The ZooNooz reporting team would have been there to meet them, but for a slight communications mix up.

I know, that in reality the pandas “Sweetie” and “Sunshine” have already arrived in Britain, but as usual, I’m a tardy bear.  So here is the first episode of the Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire’s version of the events that are unfolding in Scotland.

Also, Babette has been posing for photos everywhere!  Stay tuned for new outfits and photos of our favorite bears about town.

Also, a brush with fame to report.  The image of the 30 days of Pandas poster (available from Pandyland at Cafepress) appeared in an ad for Cafe Press on The Daily What’s page with a video of ….ooo get ready…MISERY BEAR!!!!!!!!!!  Our hero!  Check out our Pandyland link on the right.  But really, Misery Bear is our personal hero. Check out M.B. too.

Ok panda fans,  here is the first photo of the Babette de Panda Paper Doll of the season.  She appears with noted artist, writer and performing person (as opposed to dancing bears) David Ossman, of Firesign Theater fame.  Note: this photo is not eligible for our big prize, as the photographer is one of the judges for our little competition.
