Huzzah for the Young People!

WE are ALL endangered!

Can we talk for just a minute, about all the hundreds of thousands, and maybe millions of people who turned out for The March 24th #MarchForOurLives? As someone who came of age in the late 60’s and early 70’s and spent my fair share of time marching and protesting, I was so proud, so heartened (is that a word?) to see these very articulate young men and women get up in front of 100’s of thousands of people in DC and other cities around the country and around the world.

For those of you who think that these teenagers can’t possibly be this smart, this articulate, this organized (and I know that is not anyone who regularly reads these pages) I say, you are living in a dream world. Who more than this generation, raised on social media, over-scheduled and over organized within an inch of their lives, who could be better equipped to lead this movement? Emma Gonzales moved me to tears with her speech and her silence, representing the amount of time it took the gunman to kill 17 of her classmates and teachers. She is my new hero.

The Times They are a Changing…sing it, Bob!

They give me hope too. I’d hate to think that we are livng in the prequel to The Hunger Games, but it feels a lot like that.

If the NRA has its panties all bunched up over comments made by I.C.P.S., then you have to be doing something right. Panda on!

If they really knew I existed, their panties would definitely be bunched up! (I do love that phrase.) They continue to exhibit their reprehensible nature as they continue to attack the Parkland kids.
Never give up, kids! Be the bear!

I think if the NRA knew we existed, they would probably give us a quadruple F rating.
I have long supported the right to arm bears. (see Book 1 of the Panda Chronicles. 🙂 )

Bob T, I had the same experience as you in the 60’s and 70’s. The funny part of that is 4 of we women of the 60’s marched in the Women’s March we had in Ann Arbor last year! The crowd was current students at the University of Michigan and the women of the 60’s. The students were so interested in us. They had all sorts of questions about what the 60’s were like etc. Of course we shared! But, I digress. I, too, was so impressed by all the kids. I couldn’t help but think if this would have been any other school, would this have happened. I suspect not. I hope they will be able to keep up and with proper guidance they will. Today David Hogg took on Laura Ingram after she made a nasty comment about David not being accepted at colleges with his 4.2 GPA. What a mess. Back to Bei….

How cool that some of your friends from the 60’s marches got to march together for the Women’s march. It’s one of the times that I’m sad that I’m so far away, but we had an amazing turnout here in my small town. (Despite the fact that 4 busloads of people went into Seattle for the march there.)
The kerfuffle with Laura Ingraham is infuriating. And her defenders say that David Hogg’s defense against her attack is shutting off discussion. That was not a discussion. It was an attack on those kids who had just been shot at. She deserves to lose sponsors. There is a big difference between personally denigrating someone (I know I certainly didn’t have a 4.2 GPA) and disagreeing on an issue. But we know that the right wing Foxites are snowflakes. Attack, then whine when someone comes back at you. And calling for a boycott is justified when someone makes personal attacks on these kids. I don’t think the reaction would have been the same if she had just disagreed on the issue. But she made it personal.
