We have NOOOOOOZ

Panda watchers around the US woke up to the NooZ that negotiations have been underway, agreements are being signed, permits are being applied for to BRING MORE PANDAS TO PANDIEGO!!!!! Before the end of this year!

We west coast folks have been having a real sad since early in 2019 when Bai Yun and the Very Wu Self left for China. Papa Gao Gao had left earlier in 2018. We were hoping that more pandas would be coming, but You Know Who had been messing things up with China since his reign of terror began and then the Covid pandemic arrived and we despaired of ever getting pandas on the west coast again.

To put an extra helping of frosting on the cupcake, part of the negotiations is to get one of Bai Yun’s descendants as the female half of the new panda pair. Bai Yun has a LOT of descendants. I need someone with better record keeping abilities than I have to inform me on just how many grand babies and great grand babies Bai Yun has, but there are a lot of them. Next to Pan Pan, Bai Yun could be one of the most consequential pandas to have participated in taking pandas off the extremely endangered list. If you have info to share with the panda fans here, feel free to chime in in the comments.

And now, our story (well, one of our stories) continues

I’m sure the new pandas at Pandiego will be way more better behaved than Pinky and Six and Sebben. Probably.

Be the bear,
Bob T pandas return to San Diego Panda

Love the news about the panda bears coming to SD, now we have to hope for SNZ too. Wondering how Pinky, Six and Seben will feel about the west coast newbies 🙂 I think Bikkie may be more friendly …

Yes! Do you know where I can find a list of all the lineages from Bai Yun? All three of her girls have been very prolific, although is Hua Mei the only one who already has grand cubbies? (Bai Yn’s great grand cubbies) Maybe Danielle has all the info.

Aw! Thank you! I was beside myself when I saw the news. My text chain with my panda Sisterhood had been blowing up as I slept! Thanks for popping over from Heffalump! I can’t wait till they arrive, but I guess I have to.

When I got the letter of GREAT NEWS from Dr. Megan of the SDZ Wildlife Alliance this morning I had to reread it very slowly to make sure I was understanding correctly what she was telling us: “…signed a new conservation agreement with China Wildlife Conservation Association”, “…a permit application through U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service”, and “…welcoming a new generation of giant pandas to the San Diego Zoo”!!! Yes, I thought that’s what I truly read. I’m a very excited S CA panda fan! Meantime, I’m enjoying watching our S CA phenomenal couple, Jackie and Shadow the bald eagles, tending their triplet eggs on our nearby Big Bear Mountain (friendsofbigbearvalley.org) on their eagle cams. Thank you Mother Nature for all your blessings!

Yea! I hope they do bring more pandas to San Diego! Seattle, Portland or Tacoma would be even better (and cheaper; no plane trip required!), but I’m not picky! 🙂

I have long been agitating for Seattle pandas. I mean…I love the Pookies, but sigh…some pandas of my own! That would be heaven.

    OH BOY…….OH BOY…….OH BOY……..
I’m trying not to get too excited about this news but I simply cannot help myself.

Keeping fingers (and toes) crossed in hopes this really does happen. Is China in need of money at this time??? I know they get HUGE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ when they “rent out” their pandas.

I’m sure some of the money gets “reapportioned” but a lot of it really does go into their panda programs. The various panda bases (or panda ranches as I like to call them) are very well cared for and the newer ones are really nice. They are also creating more connected wild habitat so that the wild groups aren’t so isolated. Having pandas is an expensive business for the zoos that host them, but as it seems like a lot of that money goes to panda welfare, it’s money well spent. There are a lot of people working at the panda ranches, and while I don’t imagine the wages are very high, they are taking care of a lot of pandas.

Now girls, Auntie Mei is so kind and gives you cocoa and cookies. How could you be so rude? She’ should ship you right home and change her phone number. And she can send Pinky for a visit too!
