Yoga for Pandas

OK, I guess I must bestow yet another Roll of Honor award, this time on my favorite yoga instructor in the whole world (and I have been through more than 1 or 2).  I mentioned last week that I had, of my own free will, mind you, completed 21 sun salutes (on the same day, not just in one month) as per her usual practice of having us do this when class falls on a solstice or equinox.  When I told her this she said, “I just had a vision of a panda doing the sun salute.”  Of course what a panda would salute is not, perhaps, the sun, but something that is more near and dear to a panda’s (well, this panda, anyway) heart.  Congratulations Amanda! (of Whidbey Island Yoga)  You are now on the Roll of Honor!  (certificate and cartoon arriving at class this Sunday!)  (OK, the other thing that gets her on the Roll of Honor is that she indulges me in my obsession with my favorite spot, and doesn’t mind when I make unsuspecting newcomers to the class move if they get there before me.)

All salute the sacred cuppycake!

If it isn’t one thing, it’s your mother….

Editor’s Note:   But enough about that!  I’ve been working on some drawings for a (panda) book project, so I haven’t been keeping up with Bob and the Panda Kindergarten.  Fortunately, I just got these pictures from Panda-Palooza 2012 which took place at the San Diego Zoo last weekend.  Panda-Palooza is, of course, the celebration of all things panda, and several of our Facebook fans worked long and hard to make this event happen.  Since I myself could not attend, I sent Bob and Babette (and the panda kindergarten to go in my place.  Here are some pictures of them at the convention.

Here is Babette being a very helpful panda. "Would you like to use my pen?"

"This way! This way to the Pandas!"

"Hellooooo! here I am! Fellow panda...Hellooooo!"

"OOOO...I hope I don't get car sick back here...Are we there yet?"

Are we having fun yet?

New cartoons soon… I promise!

San Diego Panda Whoopie!

News on the street is that perhaps the “festivities” (we are a family friendly cartoon feature…um… mostly) that took place at the San Diego Zoo earlier this week may have some adorable dividends.  Bai Yun is not telling, although Gao Gao has a bit of a smirk, and keepers reported hearing him mumbling, “Whose da bear?  I’m bad, I’m bad, I still got it…” under his breath as he did handstands and relaxed in his hot-tub.  We won’t know for sure until much later this year, as pandas are notoriously tight-lipped on this subject, as well as unpredictable.

While we wait for our resident chronicler of pandas (will you get on it, and get off the darn computer and DRAW for cryin’ out loud?) to finish the latest cartoon, here is an old favorite on the subject of panda parenthood.

will the pitter patter of little paws soon follow?

Till we know more,

More from the Panda Kindergarten! Huzzah!

In honor of the announcement of impending pandamonium in Canada (our neighbor to the North), I thought I would pay a little homage to one of my favorite Canadian musicians.

Meet the Pandals!

And Babette is no sooner back from her trip to China (from which I have just seen some pictures) than she must get ready to go to PandaPalooza! at the San Diego Zoo this weekend.  It is so hard being an international spokespanda!

Coming soon, more panda product endorsements, tails from Scotland, and product warning labels: There is no holding back!

A Bear By Any Other Name Would Smell…well, that’s it.

It is spring time and pandas are in the mood for loooooove.  From San Diego Z00 (where they let the panda cam show some RATHER personal stuff, if you ask me, to Edinburgh, Scotland, where the happy (panda) couple have been hired to promote….deodorant.  No, I am not making this up.   The Royal Zoo in Edinburgh Scotland has played let’s make a deal with manufacturers of deodorant, to have the Scottish Pandas appear in their advertising.  I can’t make stuff up this good, no way.  Since I am not able to receive TV commercials from Scotland, it was, however, left to my imagination to bring you the commercial.  (OK, I DID make this up.)

A bear by any other name, would still smell pretty funky.

Stay tuned this week for more panda product placement!

People sometimes ask….

People sometimes ask, “where can I find the fabulous Babette (and friends) paper dolls? Are they in stores? In movie theaters?  Deserted, dark alleyways perhaps?”

And I say, “Oh no, they are right on my blog…why don’t you look through…um… say, the last 57 -85 posts…um…I think somewhere around early December, maybe…”  Well, of course, who is going to go to all that trouble to find paper dolls that they can cut out and play with and take pictures of in exotic places?  Well, actually a bunch of folks did do that, but it was when the posts were current, so they were easier to find.  so, while I was reading one of my favorite blogs,  http://justoutsidetheboxcartoon.com/ I read that she had special pages for fun stuff.  Duh…dope slap…etc.  So I thought I could do that! have a special page for the panda paper dolls!  Huzzah!  You can find it at the top of the main page! Have fun!

and don’t forget…Be the Bear!

More 2012 Previews! Huzzah! AND a Roll of Honor Inductee!

I have to start this post by thanking a tireless promoter of all things panda on Facebook.  DoxieMom Pandamonium (not her real name, I would guess)  posts compilation videos from the panda cams streamed from the US zoos, often Zoo Atlanta, since that is the home of our nations youngest panda.  This is a huge amount of work, as she has to watch hours of videos to get these little 1.5 minute gems.  Every once in a while she mentions that she doesn’t know how much longer she can do this, so we all whine and plead and then she relents and keeps doing it.  She often gives these videos really clever names that leave me laughing out loud, and Mehitabel glaring at me from her perch on my drawing table, because I’ve disturbed her beauty sleep.  Her most recent one was so funny (and such a great video that I’m not even going to admit how many times I have watched it) that the only thing I could think to do was steal the title for this cartoon.  But I’m putting her on the Roll of Honor, so I hope she will forgive me.

DoxieMom Pandamonium : you are da Bear! Welcome!

So without any more fol-der-al, here is today’s 2012 Panda Preview of upcoming cartoons!  (I stole this idea from Doonesbury ….if you are going to steal stuff, steal from the best, I always say!)

2012 Preview continues!

Oh, the pandas are busy this spring!  Here are some more of the exciting stories we will be covering soon!  I would also like to jump about and clap my paws with glee ( which produces a kind of muffled, fuzzy sound) because there have been over 21,000 views of the Panda Chronicles!  Huzzah!

The panda kindergarten: bringing chaos the world over!

We can’t tell you how sorry we are not to be at Pandapalooza at the San Diego Zoo this year,  but we will be there in spirit, and start making plans for next year.  (maybe with a book???)  We did send along a few goodies for prizes at the conference.  I hope YOU are a lucky winner!

Another boring repeat!

Yeah, yeah, I know, this is from the FALL equinox, but really, the equinox thing…it’s really the same, except that the days are getting longer instead of shorter.  Alright…it’s not exactly the same, in fact, it’s completely different, but that does not matter!

spring back...fall forward...it's so confusing!

What’s important is that I can re-run this cartoon so that I can draw some new cartoons to bring you next week, and not have to work ALL day on saturday.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks…um..is it forward?  I’ll find out if I’m late for yoga tomorrow.

Be the Bear!!

PS…Did anyone hear about the cuppycake ATM on “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” this morning?  Huzzah! cuppycakes make National Panda Radio!

The 2012 Preview!

Well, here at the Institute of Contemporary Panda Satire, we have big plans for 2012!  I thought it would be a good idea for the Panda Chronicles  to let you know what is in store for this year. Here is the first of the 2012 previews!

We’d also like to give a Roll of Honor shout out to Sue F. and Lucilla T. for alerting me to the Cuppycake ATM (with sprinkles!)  I sure wish that there was one around here! Huzzah!
