There has been a disturbance in the force

It was bad enough that we lost David Bowie, Alan Rickman, and so many other great talents last year, including Carrie Fisher (and her mom, Debbie Reynolds!) but the final insult to injury was the loss of my beloved cat, Mehitabel. She has been a part of my life and a part of my art since before I can remember, well…at least for the last 20 years. The force was strong in that cat, and she pretty much had me wrapped around her dainty little paws.

Because she was such a part of my life and such an important member of my cast of characters here at the Panda Chronicles, I decided that she would remain here. After all, I am not letting go of Pinky or the Meihems, despite their recent (Meihems) and impending (Pinky) departure to China. So Mehitabel will remain, in a somewhat metaphysical state. After all, SOMEONE has to keep all those pandas in line!

Hey, it’s my cartoon, I can have anyone I want in it, okay???

Sorry I’m “late”

I just read of a cartoonist who has found a way to use her talent to contribute to some of her favorite non profits. It really is pretty brilliant, and so I am going to say a big, pandy thank you to her, and then STEAL HER IDEA!!!!! I have been feeling the pain of not having the resources to donate meaningfully to these organizations, and this is a way to see if I can make a difference.

So here’s the deal:
Donate $50 to either the ACLU or Planned Parenthood and get a signed copy of a cartoon, with a hand drawn sketch on it.
Donate $100 to either the ACLU or Planned Parenthood and get 2 signed cartoons with a hand drawn sketch on them.
Donate $500 to either the ACLU or Planned Parenthood and get an original hand drawn cartoon of my* choice (unframed) (* you can tell me who your favorite panda characters are and I will make a selection based on that info)

Just send me a screenshot of your donation receipt dated between January 31st and February 28th, along with your mailing address, and I will send them out as I receive them. US addresses only, please. Send info/receipt to yourbrainonpandas@gmail.com. Let’s see if we can raise some $$ for these organizations! Pandas are standing by!

As one of my favorite painting teachers once said, “steal from the best!” I’ve already gotten some folks signing up and contributing to their favorite charities!

I’m so happy to know that Mehitable will still be part of our lives! The future is unlimited for her!!! She can be so helpful, going places we and friends can never go!..even Pinky with her poof wand. What I continue to be thankful for is including the Meihem and soon Pinky in current writings. As I am so sad about Pinky, I keep thinking that while she will be further away, she will still be the important part of my life and continue to be with her inclusion here, with Marcelo and all the others who love her as much as me. For we who do horrible with “good byes” it gives me something to look forward to. I will be forever grateful they won’t be forgotten.

I hate the goodbyes too. It’s for my sanity and enjoyment as much as anyone else’s that I keep my fictional pandas (and cats) close to hand. I wish I could do this in real life and gather everyone I love together and keep them safe.

I get the cartoons in my email but for some reason this time the cartoon did not show up I wonder if you have any input? Bob do you know what is going on?

Apparently, my server was hiccuping for a while last night and today. To be honest, all that stuff is a mystery to me. I just pay my bill for hosting and hope that they will make it all work. I draw with an ink dip pen, the old fashioned way. What do I know of the mysteries of cyberspace?

Love the wings and halo! Perfect! Did you ever see a children’s book called Catwings? Second book is Catwings Return. Very sweet.

I am so happy to see the late Mehitabel return. I couldn’t picture Bob T with any other host. Now that she has a halo, will “Mr Kitty” be safe from the panda kindy?
Love the donation for a cartoon idea!

I’m not sure that anyone is safe from the pandy kindy. Although certainly, we would be safer with them than from the current gang on offer in DC.

She always did have an aura, in real life, or so she told me. She said it was my glasses that made it hard to see,

Ahhh, there she is, as witty as ebber! Don’t be confused, Bob, after-all, we are blessed with “9 lives”. As Mehitabel so eloquently pointed out: “In ancient Egypt cats were considered to be Gods”. (and we never forgot it!)

She never let me forget it either. I’m hoping she’ll be watching out for me, where ever she is.

Yes, I’m sure she will be watching out for you. Just as I believe Pepper (Winky’s inspiration) has watched out for me all these years. LOL, can picture those two “Grand Kitty Dames”, sitting somewhere together, sipping catnip tea and giving orders!

Oh yes! I bet Mehitabel is running the place already (with pepper’s help, of course.) I hope she can take time out from her busy schedule of napping, eating cream and tuna and bossing her minions around to look in on things down here.

To like your cartoons, but not political organizations. I’d donate to animal welfare, cancer, JDRF, MS, but I’m not supporting a political group. Real life pandas aren’t about human politics. You dropped the ball. SPLAT!

I have long been aware of the fact that you can’t please everyone all the time. I’m sorry you feel like I dropped the ball this time. We pandas are a multi-faceted lot, and I regularly provide support for Pandas International, but this time I wanted to support some other organizations that I thought were doing important work, and hence, my choice of beneficiaries this month.

By all means, send some support to your favorite animal support organizations. It’s just that there is no panda satire bonus for doing so this month. There probably will be some other month, just not now. But that’s what personal choice is all about, isn’t it?

And in case you haven’t noticed, these are not exactly real life pandas. And if any animal is political, it is definitely pandas. China uses them as a political bargaining tool.
