31 Days of Pandas: Day 22

Well.

Babette has absconded with all the paintings that the panda kindergarten art historians had so painstakingly collected, taking off for parts unknown on the S.S. Tipandic. Will we ever see Babette or the paintings again? Hmmm…I think they (or at least Babette) may turn up sooner or later. Thus, The Case of The Picturesque Panda draws to a close. And because I have them done, and because I have an idea for the rest of 31 Days of Pandas, I give to you, as my little gift, both today’s as well as tomorrows episodes. Which means I have to get back to work to get tomorrow’s holiday extravaganza started.

Oh well…a panda satirist’s work is never done.

"hey boss, am I going to get paid for this?" "Um...well, you are what is known as an unpaid intern."

“hey boss, am I going to get paid for this?”
“Um…well, you are what is known as an unpaid intern.”

Can you believe those Meihems? blaming everything on Pinky?

Can you believe those Meihems? Blaming everything on Pinky? At least the mystery of Mr. Wu’s tape has been solved.

Keep being the bear!

I had not yet recovered from the surprise to learn the shipping line SS Tipandic (I want to travel there) and see that Babette has managed to escape with EVERYTHING. These boxes and chests with BdP abbreviations (so beautiful, customized) and the captain, a polar bear ? Oh, Bob T. too many questions remains open … and these little pandykinys so smart, where they stood to prevent defalcation? I’m a little disappointed

Using the time honored device of some series mystery writers, I decided NOT to tie up all the loose ends of the story. Just enough so that people don’t hunt me down and smack me, but not so many that our story can’t continue in some time, in some form, somewhere in the future. Mr. Wu will return as Inspector Panda’s unpaid intern, and the Meihems will continue to create mayhem with Princess Pinky ( and, of course, blame her for being the mastermind. Don’t we all have memories of kids like that when we were in school?)
The Pandy Kindy just got excited at tracking down Babette in her lair, and forgot to lock the treasure up. Oops. They are the pandy kindy, after all, even if they gotten degrees in art history to round out their panda kindergarten educations.
Bears will be bears, you know.

Dear Bob T.: you can not imagine how much I enjoy your comics. I hope the ballerina figurine appears in Sotheby’s :-))

Well, Babette will be attempting to cash in on her “acquisitions” so be sure to keep an eye on new offerings from Sotheby’s and Christies.

Huzzah! The mystery of the tape revealed!!
Love the teaming of Inspector Panda and Mr Wu and can’t wait for more.
How can such a pretty Princess make such a face? Love it 🙂
I like to think that Babette has something philanthropic in mind with those artworks. Maybe she will open the Babette de Panda Museum of Panda Arts and let the world see the beautiful creations – only to paying customers of course!!

You could be right about Babette’s intentions pertaining to the paintings. Many museums acquire works with questionable provenance (although my understanding they have become much more careful about this sort of thing) but I believe Babette is a panda of untold resources. Who knows what she’ll think up. I will definitely suggest to her that this would be a worthwhile thing to do with all those paintings, unless of course she chooses to return them…nah. I didn’t think that will happen. The Babette de Panda Museum may already be in the planning stages.

Aww! The tape is the cutest thing I’ve ever read!

Poor Princess Pinky, always being blamed by the “tattle tale finks”…. and the poor Mei-Hems, always getting yelled at by her

While other panda story tellers write from the point of view that most pandas are mostly good and they all want to get along (mostly), I seem to have the naughty panda angel on my shoulder, whispering in my ear that I should …um…rile the girls up a bit, and encourage them to behave badly. It makes for fun juxtapositions, working with a shared cast of characters, with me reveling in the wild side of the pandy kindy. I can’t help it. It’s the way I was written.

I wish I knew. Last year she showed no interest whatsoever, and the SDZ panda staff decided that she should decide whether she was “in the mood” for the panda season of love. She is no going on 23, which is pretty old to be a mom (well, if you’re a panda that is) but at least last year, they thought she was in as good health as she’s ever been. If she gives the high sign (lacy black negligee and booting glass, with jazz playing in the background perhaps) they might just let her have some fun. It may have been she wanted a break from motherhood, and needed a little me time. Stay tuned to this space and the SDZ panda blog for updates.

I think Queen Bai would enjoy a menopausal romp without the worry of cubbies lol I know she’d rather spoil her grandcubbies and greatgrandcubbies instead of having another baby jump on her head
