Some Pandas Leave – Some Pandas Return

It’s one of those things that most lovers of all things panda have a bit of a hard time with: We don’t own our pandas, we only rent them. America has not owned their resident pandas since the Nixon Pandas came to live here in 1972. And not only that, any panda cubs born here still belong to China and these pandas return to China any time after they are two years old. Well, return is not really correct, since they were born here, but that’s how it’s thought of in the panda procurement department.

As much as we’d like to keep all of our American born pandas, it’s just not gonna happen, so save your petition writing for your Congressperson.

A panda can dream though…

pandas return

But some pandas go both ways!

Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks as I share my adventures with real, actual pandas!

Panda On!

Can’t wait to hear about your trip, especially how it was to clean up royal poo and to feel Pinky’s breath on your hand!

I’m working on my photos now. I hope to get an expanded account with pictures up soon. I keep having nap attacks in the middle of the day. This time change/ jet lag thing is getting old! I got outside yesterday and today for a while and I’m hoping that helps to reset my clock.
Being in Pinky’s presence was amazing. She was a bit nervous with all the people there, but her nanny reassured her it was okay.

Um…I refuse to answer this question as I don’t want to start an international incident (and by that I mean one NOT caused by the Orange Menace) but seriously, I really wanted to bring little Ping Ping home with me. He is a very sweet panda.

Welcome home Bob! Thanks for carrying all our love to our beloved native-born pandas with you. No wonder you are so exhausted – that’s a lot of extra weight! Enjoyed all your updates and looking forward to seeing your photos and artwork. Have to say, that bulging, wriggling sack you brought back with you looks awfully, adorably suspect!!

Thank you. I had to give Pinky her messages while I was feeding her carrots, so her replies were a little garbled. She misses you all and says keep those cards and letters (and pressies!) coming!
I’m trying to stay awake long enough to work on photos, but the afternoon nap monster keeps me going to sleep for a few hours each afternoon. Hoping to get done soon!
