Secret Meetings Were Held…

…at the campaign headquarters of one Princess Pinky Panda in Washington DC at the National Zoo. Why weren’t you alerted in advance? Well, it wouldn’t have been much of a secret meeting if I told you before it happened now, would it?

When I started my journey into panda satire, I was a little unsure about what kind of people I would meet in cyberspace. After a while, I figured they weren’t all scary and most of them weren’t ax murderers, and so, a couple of years ago (I can’t even remember how many…maybe it was when the first Panda Chronicles books came out) I told one of my Facebook panda friends that yes, I was coming to DC and maybe it would be fun to meet a couple of people, but don’t make a big deal or anything.

Well, one fun lunch get together led to another and then to another and then I met Leslie Johnson who made the most amazing cuppycakes depicting Princess Pinky and now Bubba cookies.  (Pinky cuppycakes came complete with tiara and magical wand!)

On this trip, not only did I get to visit with friends from past panda visits, but also met more people that I only know on FB and Twitter, including the people behind @houseofcubs and @pinkypanda0823 on Twitter. I have sworn not to reveal their identities, so don’t even TRY to worm it out of me!

At the beginning of my trip, I was in Western PA where I met some other blogger friends. a great time was had by all, and was written about on Cordelia’s Mom Still,  by one of the bloggers I got together with, while in PA.

Do we know how to have fun, or what?

But I know you didn’t show up to see pictures of my trip! Bring on the panda satire, you say! In commemoration of the recent exodus from the clown car by several of the clowns, (I won’t say celebration, because there still is a very big, bad clown in the car) Let’s have a trip down memory lane from Bob’s last venture in presidential politics…..

Bob says it best! “What’s the point of being president if you can’t stop for cake?”

Keep cool, cat, and don't go blaming women for stuff. That is SO not the way to get votes...

Is this a little too close to what some candidates are actually saying? Um….yes. Yes it is.

Four years ago, I thought I had made a really absurd representation of political discourse. This year, um…not so much. what has been said by certain candidates is way beyond what is in this cartoon.

By the way…yesterday was National Cartoonists Day! Did anyone get me a present?

Be the Bear,
Bob T Panda

Nice to see our Babette, loving so much her french accent, and her elegance. Only disliked me know that she is able to steal… #PicturesquePanda

That Babette is a sneaky one. I am currently working on more story lines to follow the “Picturesque Panda” (which is not finished yet.) Babette will certainly be a bear to watch out for.

Um…I have not conceded the election to Pinky yet. I am going to start campaigning real soon. No sense in rushing things, you know?

Love your photo – the lady looks nice, too. You notice how I managed NOT to be in any of the photos taken in PA – people still don’t know what I look like, and just as well it be kept that way so as not to scare anyone. We need to do it again, Bob T. I haven’t had that much fun in a long time.

I did notice that you managed to avoid being photograph. In the event I should be questioned as to your appearance, I will be suitably vague in my accounts to the authorities.
And yes, we must do this again! I loved the dorm party vibe whilst hanging out with y’all.

I am thinking that Mittens may have to make a return appearance with…um…a new “do” and a blond combover is just the thing! Hard to imagine I can come up with anything more absurd than the actual statements (And I won’t resort to the kind of bigotry and mysogeny that has been bandied about by a certain candidate) Stay tuned!

Ah ha! It was a meeting of the secret panda society! 🙂 The Bubba cookies are adorable! I wouldn’t be able to eat them if I was given one. Hey, speaking of the magic wand, whatever happened to Pinky’s wand? I can’t believe that she has yet to find it.

I think maybe mommee hid it. Pinky has been naughty enough without extra powers. I bet she will start looking for it soon. Does the magical wand have limits to its powers? We just don’t know, Dude.

Oh those cuppycakes are wonderful and so are the Bubba cookies. What creativity! Isn’t it beyond beautiful that when you start on a new direction, you can’t ever tell where it will lead. I hope you enjoyed Cartoonist’s Day (who knew?)…and I am looking forward to your next book, so stop fooling around with those Pandas and hurry up!

The cuppycakes were not only adorable, but also delicious. (Yes I ate the cuppycake AND the cookies)
Okay! Okay! I’m getting back to work. Sheesh! What a bunch of bossy pants! I guess National Cartoonist’s day is over!

I love the beautiful Princess Pinky scarf that the pretty lady is wearing in the photo. Are they for sale because I really, really need one?

It was a gift from one of my friends, but I think they have them in the National zoo store or maybe through Pandas International. Check PI’s website.

I was happy! Both Pinky and Bubba visited with me and Bubba did not sleep through my visit. He played for at least 20 minutes on the log structure in the front of his yard. Anytime I can hang out with my friends AND pandas is a very good day in my book.

What a lovely read and great photos. I love the one of you and Pinky!!
We’re having a federal election in eight weeks! Happy to give free board and bamboo to any Pandas that may want to come down under and help Wang Wang & Fu Ni get elected. They are by far the best option. There will of course be cuppycakes!

Well, if Pinky doewn’t start behaving herself, Mama Mei may pack her up and send her down to help Fu Ni and Wang Wang get elected. Or Pinky may decide she could be PM of Australia AND president of the US.
Glad you liked the pictures. It was a fun day. I felt like such a star!
