Pandas are not Solitary

Contrary to the conventional wisdom, pandas are not solitary animals, as scientists would have us believe. In fact many of them are on social media, with a veritable flood of them on Twitter! Princess Pinky has her own page, and Bubba has several. Recently Pinky and Bubba’s parents have gotten into the act, probably to make sure Pinky was not up to anything she shouldn’t be. I…ahem…heard that Inspector Panda has an account, but he forgot his password and hasn’t been able to find it.

Just a couple of days ago, a photograph of Canada’s new Prime Minister has hit the inter webs, …wait for it…with the extremely adorable Toronto panda twins on his lap. New Yorker writer Andy Borowitz has pointed out the dangers of allowing this photo to be publicized. Will Americans who chose to flee a potentially repressive regime come the November elections, be given a false sense of what Canada has to offer? (Free pandas for everyone!!!!!) And will we all have to take up the sport of curling?

Could all these Twitter accounts be real, with pandas pounding the keys of their laptops as they while away the hours behind the scenes? Or is something more sinister going on?

But they're so cute!

But they’re so cute!

To tell the truth, I did not know what a “sock puppet” account was, until recently. But wouldn’t it be fun, if they really did have to make puppets to use them?

Be the Bear!

Sigh – I had to look up sock puppet. It means something very different now than it did when I was young. Trudeau is visiting Obama today – perhaps he’ll teach Obama how to sit peacefully with pandas and find your inner self. Ha!

I didn’t know what the current definition of “sock puppet” was either, until recently. I remember making many sock puppets as a kid. But Bob is kind of a big kid, isn’t he?

As for the visit of the PM to the White House, do you suppose he brought the twins with him? It looks like they are getting along famously! Maybe Pinky and Bubba and the twins will all get to have dinner with the grownups tonight.

In the land of social media (apparently) a sock puppet is a fake account (like on Twitter) where you would pretend to be someone other than who who really are, so that you could say nice or mean things about someone. Like if I were to open a Face Book account under the name Bob T Panda or…um…well, is it really such a BAD THING?
          Uh…but anyway…

Hey, here in Brooklyn we have a new Shuffleboard venue that is immensely popular. Can Curling be far behind?

At the very least, you’ll get a chance to brush up on your shuffleboard skills, before having to convert to curling.

I think they are all attending a White House state dinner tonight with the Canadian PM, who (it is my…um…understanding) brought the twins so they could hang out with Pinky and Bubba. I imagine Mei Xiang and Tian Tian are there as well, to help keep the kids in line. From the picture of Trudeau with the twins, it looks like he might be the sort that would let them talk with their mouth full, and maybe climb on the table.

Eak! We do not eat pandas! No no no no!
I’m sure Justin Trudeau would never do that. I don’t know much about Harper, other than a lot of people didn’t particularly like him.

In regards to sockpuppetry, if the concept was good enough for founding father Benjamin Franklin, I say the pursuit of this should be good enough for us modern regular folk. Or in the case of my preferential presidential candidate, good enough for pandas such as the extraordinarily fabulous Bob T. Panda. ???

Remember the cartoons with the original DC pandas at a state dinner with the Nixons and in the Lincoln bedroom getting lessons on that stuff that all real pandas know about. You could use that for Fabulous Furry Friday.

When did a second definition of “sock puppet” surface?? Boy, people love to change things, huh?
I don’t think Trudeau should allow the Canadian twins to have a play date with Princess Pinky, unless it was closely supervised by her mother. He doesn’t know the power of PP, as those twins will never be the same again. 😉

I don’t know when the current internet definition of sock puppets happened. I’m still trying to tell whether it is better to use my right hand sock, or my left hand, and if it matters if they have holes in them.
I hope Pinky does not induct the Canadian Twinkies as her new minions. This could be very, VERY bad.
