And Now, for Something More Cheerful

We are tired of gloom and doom. As is my practice, I am getting this post ready in advance, so while in real time, it is still election day, by the time you see this, it will all be over but the shouting. And the suing. Rev up your attorneys! It’s gonna be a bumpy ride! I don’t know about you, but I could use something way more cheerful to read today, so I looked in the archives to find some of the funniest, most light hearted ‘toons I had.

Enjoy and feel cheerful!

Note from the Panda in Chief: As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, it was assmbled before the election. As you may surmise, I am deeply distressed about the outcome of the election. Please take this group of lighthearted cartoons as a little respite from what ever anxiety, sadness, and fear you may now be feeling.

I don’t know how to process this news, or even how to go on, but I have been through bad times before, and this one is a doozy. Art is the way I process what I experience and feel. And so, the upcoming cartoons, with the exception of the next two (which were done before the election) may be…um…a little dark. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I have to believe that we, as a nation will survive and maybe even thrive, even while I am not hopeful of that. Know that panda satire will prevail and will hopefully bring a bit of light into the darkness that surrounds us right now. Unless they arrest me. I guess that there is always that possibility.

Thank you so much for the panda refuge in a storm of craziness. Even though the voting for president is over, don’t forget that you can always “vote” with your pocketbook. I say we start a campaign to boycott all products and properties associated with “He who shall not be named”. Hit him in the place that he cares the most about, his net worth. Just a thought. Thanks again for all of the exceptional ‘toons.

I think that is an excellent idea. I believe some people have already started that. We can also support organizations that stand with and help those who will suffer most through this. We can open our hearts to those who don’t look like us, worship the same God, or love someone who “society” does not deem “proper”.
I hope pandas will continue to bring light in the darkness.

Thanks for the panda tonic you administered with the hilarious toons from the past – it helped me immensely! I like Kelly’s suggestion – a good one, indeed. I only wish I could afford anything He Who Shall Not be Named’s “brand” offers so I could boycott. Alas, I am not in that economical realm so I’m boycotting by default. Or, one might say I have always boycotted this brand. I’ve never been a fan. We (USA) will survive this. We have always been Great. This latest setback won’t defeat us. Gee, I’m feeling better already!

I’m glad you are feeling better today. I am at a children’s book illustrator conference, and I have to say, being around all these talented, bright, creative folks is doing wonders for my soul.
At least for the forseeable future, I’ll try to strike a balance between my encore cartoons (keeping them fun and light so we remember what we are fighting for) and whatever new work I do that addresses my ongoing struggle with what is happening right now. Artists don’t work in a vacuum, and by default are influenced by the world around them, and I am no exception.

Ha ha on the boycott by default! I too am not in an economic bracket that would be staying at his resorts or buying his products. It’s a shame and embarresment that so many people chose to overlook his charlatan ways and hand him the keys to the white house. We will reap the ill rewards for a long time to come.

Thank you, Bob for these wonderful contributions to fun and panda loving happiness. Please, please, stay on this track. I believe pandas are our best bet for anything that ails the fragile, worrying human spirit. Let’s take our cues from them—eat, rest, climb trees, smile(!), tumble, climb the mountain, play with toys, eat treats and veggies!, be eat, rest, repeat….

Well, at least I should be able to keep the friday encore presentations in the pight and fun realm. But there are dark forces at work in the world and part of my job as an artist is to speak out on important issues as I see them. It is also my job to expose the absurdity of the human condition and by poking fun at these things, render them harmless.
I am having dark thoughts and that is going to come out in my ‘toons. Hold on to your hat. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
