Fabulous Furry Friday Celebrates Panda Birthday Season

It is that most blessed time of year, panda birthday season!!!!! For the American born pandas, the season kicked off this week with America’s darling, Tai Shan, who has moved to his ancestral homeland a few years back.  He turned 9 on the 9th.  I’m sure that must be significant in some way, not that I know what. This week also marked the first birthday of Yuan Zai, better known as “Dumpling”, the great granddaughter of Bai Yun of Pandiego.

Coming up next week on the 15th, the Meihem twinkies, Mei Lun and Mai Huan (known here as their fictional counterparts Bert and Ernie) celebrate their first birthday.  I thought I would revisit some of their early feature cartoons to celebrate the occasion.

Atlanta twin panda cubs Mei Lun and Mei Huan and older prother Po

Huzzah! a guest appearance by little Po!

Of course this last episode took place before we knew that not only the twins, but big brother…um…sister, Po had been misidentified, gender wise! It is kind of hard to tell with pandas.

Bao bao changes panda cub gender

Of course, Princess Pinky took the credit for that one.

Sweet dreams, little bears!

And lest we forget Mr Wu’s reaction to the announcement of twins:

Mr Wu speaks out!

Let there be cake!

Anticipation!

Huzzah for Panda Birthday season!

I hope you’ll hop over to read VSomethingSpeaks as Vicky relates her journey into the world of panda…um…obsession. So many people find pandas in answer to difficult times in their lives, and Vicky is no exception.

Have a great weekend, and don’t forget to have some cake!

Be the Bear,
Bob T. Panda

Pinky insisted in being in the Twinkie Meihem’s Fabulous Furry Friday feature. Sigh. She has wiggled her way into their birthday cartoon too.

Must be MH on the left in that first one; she’s the instigator, for sure! These are adorable, and some I hadn’t seen until now. I do believe the Twinkies need their own book…really…. 🙂

I can never tell which is which, or which is Bert and which is Ernie. I don’t know if I will have enough cartoons that are specifically the twinkies to get their own book. We shall see. They may have to share.

I think the POOFING incident has been the only time Pinky was ever sorry for something she did… poor Po! Then again, she DID reply to me one time that Po was to pretty to be a boy anyhow :-/

We spoke to Princess Pinky shortly after the incident in question, and she made this statement to our investigative news team:
“well, i is sorry about po, but i tink dat da meihems are much cuter as girls. anyways, dats what dey get for not letting pinky in dere cub-house. dey will know bedder den to mess wif pinky again. um…don’t tell mommee ’bout dis, ‘kay?”

I love panda birthday season… whether it be real or thru the ‘alternate universe’ here.

I also heard on good authority that Princess Pinky Bao Bao will be on her best behavior for the parties this month. She is growing up and is becoming the beautiful young lady that we all thought she would.

Getting back to Tai Shan celebrating his 9th birthday on the 9th… there is actually a term for that!! it is called celebrating your Golden birthday or Grand birthday or even Luck Birthday.

Thanks for giving me the term for when your day of birth matches the number of years. I guess I had my luck Birthday…um…a while ago.
I’m glad the Princess Pinky Bao Bao SAYS that she will be on her best behavior for all the parties this month. Tune in on Tuesday to see if, in fact, this is the case, when she helps the Meihems to celebrate their birthday.

Some of favourites here – the Debut of the Twinkies was beyond cute!!
And Pinky’s Gender Changing Magical Poofing was so funny – never say NO to Panda – I mean Pinky!
But you can’t but love Mr Wu’s outrage at the birth of twins 🙂
Loving panda birthday season – can’t wait for Tuesday!

Mr wu is still trying to adjust to not being the only cub around here. Of course with his new job with Inspector Panda, he has been distracted from smaller-cub-envy.
I love Pinky’s slightly demented look in the second panel of the poofing cartoon. what are we going to do about her? I fear she will be ramping up her demands as her birthday approaches.

Slightly demented? That is one of the best facial expressions I’ve seen on a panda!!
I can imagine how demanding the little Princess will be – but then she does deserve a spectacular birthday. Wonder what Tai Shan will send her?

I shudder to think what brother Tai will send. I think he likes to send things to make their mom mad.
