Bei Bei Panda Debuts to Acclaim!

There is one more cartoon about Princess Pinky and her “views” of the change in hours for the National Zoo in Washington DC, but there are events that take precedent! I am, of course, referring to our latest national treasure, Bei Bei Panda, known to the readers of The Panda Chronicles as Bubba. (Pinky’s note: or boo boo!)

This past Friday marked the first day that members of the Friends of the National Zoo got to be up close and personal with him, and he did not disappoint. But what was going on behind the scenes? How did Bei Bei prepare for his role as a national icon? (Pinky’s note: excuse me. i am the only icon around here. Get in line, boo boo.) Rumor has it, he even waved to the crowd.

But let’s peek behind the scenes, shall we?

Stay tuned for our next look behind the scene of bei Bei’s…um I mean bubba’s big debut!

Well, even the most cool panda boy might get a little wound up when it is time for his big debut. He doesn’t know he’s been on camera since birth. Hmmm… I wonder if “someone” will tell him that.

Love Pinky’s expression when Bubba asks if the outfit he is wearing (which is like all his other outfits) makes him look fat ! I’ve also noticed the real Bei Bei mouthing boo and eating his cookies. He is going to be one formidable scale-breaking Panda!

I don’t know how I get these ideas. :o) At first I thought I would have him choose between different outfits, but then I thought nit would be funnier if he had to choose between identical outfits. Of course, for all we know, they COULD have been different color stripes.
He is definitely going to be…um…sizable. I haven’t seen any age/weight comparison charts between Bubba and his sibs lately, but he has been running ahead of Tai’s weight at the same age and far ahead of petite Pinky.

Awwww, poor stressed baby! The keepers say Tian Tian’s name is perfect–it means “more and more,” and he always wants more and more food, more and more attention, etc. So Bei Bei comes by that honestly! He’ll be a big boy, too!

I *love* the interaction between Pinky and Bubba! We know his “Beibut” went smashingly well, so I look forward to seeing the next comic!

It will he fun to see how Pinky and bubba’s relationship develops. 🙂
I had forgotten what Tian Tian’s name meant. Good to see that junior is a chip off the old block.

I bet he did! Both those boys love their foo! I was interested to read today, the SDZ blog which was all ablout the Wu Self. He only weighs 134 pounds at 3 years old. Pinky is alReady at 150 ish. It will be interesting to see if. Bubba continues to be ahead of the curve, or will level out a bit.

Speaking of weight. You know Mr Wu, living in Balboa Park in San Diego, California, might feel the need to keep trim given his easy access to the Beach. After all, a boy can only ask for so many Board Shorts for Surfing, Dudes and Dudettes. I imagine that the outdoor lifestyle and endless fresh fruit help keep a boy slim. In DC, the de riguer formal attire of suits or pantsuits will hide a few extra lbs a cub might pick up consuming #MoreFooFrosting.

On a serious note, Bei Bei was in comparison just incredibly bigger than his womb-mate at birth. Therefore, I imagine his growth and appetite could be genetic. We know so little about pandas. May that little boy angel cub be in a peaceful loving place. ?

Back to fun. I sure love what you are doing with that little boy cubby. May Pinky enjoy her dominant status. I do think he will soon give her a run for our money. Opps, you don’t charge us. But I always buy the book!

Glad you are enjoying the Pinky/Bubba relationship. I think it is a lot of fun too.
Good point about Wu needing to keep his slim California lifestyle physique. He can really rock the surfer shorts when he heads off to the beach!

And I do appreciate greatly your support via book purchases. Every so often I think about setting up a Patreon account, but really, that would be just an excuse for spending more time on line. I would rather keep my blog unencumbered by anything other than the occasional pleas for book sales and stuff with pandas on it. Thanks for giving your support!

I just looked up Patreon Account. I think it is a great idea. I’d contribute, although not what you deserve, money is tight at this point. But I’d do it because you give me great joy. I want a plush Bubba in his cubberalls, too. Shh, it’s just before 5 in the morning and technology is verboten. I’m much better. Happy week. Not here but North Carolina got 66 inches of snow. Tian Tian would have a rolling party.

I go back and forth on the idea of a Patreon account. The thing that most dissuades me, is that it gives me a reason (excuse) to be on the computer even more than I am, and I am really trying to limit my social media romps. So, for now, I am just encouraging people to buy my books and stuff with pandas on it every now and then. Being on Patreon is sort of like a never ending Kickstarter campaign, and while they are exhilarating and have allowed me to do projects that I might not have been able to do otherwise, they are all-consuming and exhausting. Not very conducive to actually doing the work. (oh that.)

I’m glad you are feeling better. Take care and recover well.
