Are You Still Here?

Are you still here?…That’s what Mehitabel must be saying to herself about now. Why didn’t I hold auditions? Why did I say okay, when Mei Xiang called me and asked if I could give Pinky a job, just a little something to help her through her transition to big girl panda?

But she didn’t, and now she is paying the price, of having a co-host with a big personality. Maybe Bob could come back early…I’m sure he’s learned his lesson by now, don’t you think?

Archie, is that you?

Archie, is that you?

Reminds me of the time I went to the basement to get a load of firewood, and found a large (about the size of a Mercedes Benz) blattus americanus on my arm. I flicked it off but did not see where it went. When I arrived upstairs I had an, um, creepy feeling. I was wearing a twin set and took off the cardigan and went to my 3 way mirror. Sure enough it was on my back! I pulled off the sweater and woke my cat…who was much more matter-of-fact than Mehitabel!

Ha ha! I bet you squealed like a girl. Um…as would I. Mehitabel is very unfazed by bugs, well, the real Mehitabel is. Her cartoon counterpart…um…squealed like a girl.

Actually I did not squeal, because my husband was working in the next room and he is scared witless of big bugs. When we took “tropical” vacations I was always the one who had to escort the “visitors” out the window while he hid in the bathroom. So I did not want him to know what was happening and freak out! Sarah was annoyed at being woken up, but played with the poor bug until I mercifully took it from her and flushed it. (Sarah had been known to stash her “toys” under a carpet or the bed, sometimes not quite, um , deceased.)

I’m so glad to hear that you did not resort to stereotypical behavior. Mehitabel, in her youthful incarnation as a serial killer, would often leave presents for me, usually departed, but not always. She has never (to my knowledge) hid anything in the bed. She liked credit where credit is due.
Once a mouse got into the house, which gave her many hours of happy play time. When I got fed up with her lack of willingness to “finish the job” I set a mouse trap. The next day, lined up near the door with several of her other favorite toys, was the poor little mouse, now deceased. She gave me a look that said, ” well, I wasn’t done with it yet, but if you insist…”
          Cats. Hmmmph.

I’d watch Pinky on any news channel! I love how she quickly went from “Yucky! Bugs is disgusting!” to talking to the roach. A couple of my cats would eat the bug. Having lived in Florida and NYC, I’m pretty used to them. But I’m willing to stomp, personalities or not!

I lived in downtown Philadelphia while I was in college, and cockroaches were a fact of city life. That didn’t make them any less disgusting, my childhood affection for Archie notwithstanding. I’ve heard the ones in Florida can pick up a small child and carry it off. Stomp, we must!

Yeah, Pinky is pretty scary. Mehitabel does so hate losing her cool in front of any of the pandas. Keep that Pinky poofing scenario in mind….
