A Very Merry Birthday

One* downside of only doing 2 cartoons a week, is that sometimes events slip through the cracks and I don’t get to them in a timely manner. All of the panda birthday events happen in a very short period of time (not quite as short as the panda season of love, but, you know, those events are connected.) But recent news of the upcoming birthdays of two much loved Pandarazzi of The National Zoo gives me the perfect excuse to post this new ‘toon now!

I am particularly indebted to those regular zoo visitor panda photographers that chronicle the real pandas that fuel my panda satire obsession. I am far from pandas and my opportunities to visit them are limited, so to all who share their photos and videos on Fezbook and Twidder, this one is for you too!

Happy Birthday, Merry and Allen R.  I hope your birthday celebration is everything you hope it will be!

Bubba flunks “cake”

birthday

Up and away…..

Have a panful day out there, and for goodness sakes, have some CAKE!!!!!

Be the Bear!
Bob T. Panda

Thanks to  and        my twitter pals that alerted me to Merry and Allen’s birthday! Hope you guys enjoy this birthday surprise!

  • The other downside are the wails of despair when folks realize they have to wait another 4 days for a new ‘toon.

Poor Bubba, I know what you’re up against buddy. I had a big brudder who always made me feel bad about things too! But, the way I see things you earned an A+++ in Birthday Cake on mama’s birthday when you helped her by sitting on top of her cake to melt the goodies out of the ice. By the way, you think “Boo Boo” is humiliating? I can’t even repeat what my big brudder used to call me.

Bubba truly appreciates your sentiments here. It is hard to have an older sibling that is an icon and …um…a megalomaniac. I’m glad to know that Bubba redeemed himself with mommee’s cake. Probably this talk from Pinky inspired him.
So what DID your big brudder call you anyway. Nevermind. You don’t have to answer that.

Poor Bubba! And Pinky – you are being so naughty. Bubba did not flunk cake. He was doing what 1 year olds do, being cute. Just wait till next year!

Pinky would like to remind you that she knew enough to stand on her cake and not let mommee have the whole thing. Adorable is not enough in today’s marketplace. She is…um…just taking Bubba under her wing and trying to teach him what it means to be a panda in today’s world.

Bubba obviously learned early the concept of sharing, which is why he decided to take a nap and leave his cake to his mother. We all know how Pinky feels about that word…. 😉

Maybe so, but Pinky feels she needs to take Bubba in paw and clue him in to the way the world really works. Mei Xiang wishes that Pinky would leave Bubba’s education to his mom. Stay tuned!

oh, Bob T., fine that I can use this line to also congratulate the best photographers of Pinky!!! I also enjoy their photos from afar. Liddle princess knows how to move front of the cameras and how to delight their fans. She is a star. Adorable and unresisdabel.

Poor Bei Bei. Don’t feel bad, BB… you just are your own panda, an independent creative thinker who is not afraid to do it your way! (They even wrote a song about doing it your way)

What a beautiful drawing, Bob. ???? Looks like “Ba-bear” took his friends for a birthday ride, him being such a proficient balloon driver. The pandas a really having fun, but poor pony looks like he’s having second thoughts about this ride.?

Whatever method of conveyance, it is never a good idea to let the panda drive. Just saying. Thank you!

First and foremost: Happy birthday to Merry and Allen!!

    Now, onto panda turmoils.
*snort!* I’m sure that it’s all Pinky’s fault that Bubba “flunked cake” (LOL!!!), because she didn’t inform him all about the birfday rules.
Of course, I love how both Banky Pig and General Bun were trying to console Bubba when he realized that he’d flunked cake.

Oh my! Pinky withholding important information, just so she could lecture Bubba about it later? I’m shocked! Banky Pig and General Bun are such good friends to Bubba. I’m sure they will keep Pinky from always getting the better of her little brother.
Thanks for joining in and wishing Allen and Merry a happy birthday! Long may they photograph our favorite panda family!

Happy birthday, Merry and Allen, and thank you both for all the delightful photos!

Thank you, Bob, for this wonderful comic, too. I wondered if you’d address it! Pinky was simply practicing the Dark Sisterly Arts here. And Bubba…well, he just found a way to distinguish himself from his oldest siblings, that’s all! I love how Banky Pig and General Bun tried to comfort Bubba, and Pinky’s mean but adorable smirk at him.

Banky Pig and General Bun are very supportive! And of course Pinky must be pinky, or she wouldn’t be very Pinkyish, would she. I like the idea of Dark Sisterly Arts. Pinky could write a book on that.

    Happy Birthday Merry and Allen!
Panda-in-Chief, we can wait four days and more after a beautiful drawing like that one. Thank you. My birthday is June 29 if you need an excuse to treat those of us whom love you. Happy week.
